Well, you can't increase it... the battery has simply worn off, i.e. it no longer holds the same amount of charge as when it was new; instead it holds only a fraction of that charge, in your case 47%.

How old is it? If it's older than say a year and a half, and you've been using it every day, I can imagine a 53% wear level (although I can also imagine a smaller one for a high-quality battery...)

If the battery is much newer, then it's not normal.

how often have you let the battery die? If you've almost never let the battery die all the way down try letting the battery die and then do a full charge and see what it says.

look slike your battery is just worn out though, they do not last forever

dont always trust software and what it tells you.

If it lasted 3 hours new and last 2 hours now, you know its not 50% dead.

In that case, your battery has just worn out.

If you want your battery life back, I'm afraid your only option is to buy a new battery (hoping you can still find them).

Be aware that never discharging the battery can also be harmful to a certain extent. I always do a discharge cycle at least once every two months.

By discharging you mean letting it drain out all the way, correct?

Not all the way, that can also be harmful. Just let it discharge until you hit the critical battery alarm (usually 5% if I remember correctly), then plug it in and use the computer.

does having the computer plugged in ware out the battery as well? because i was planning on leaving mine plugged in and running for most of the day, but if that wares out the battery then i should reconsider.

No, it doesn't. You can leave it plugged in with the battery inside without any significant damage to the battery.

As long as you do discharge it from time to time (at least every two months as I suggested is a good period), it should be fine.
