so i wanna put in the traveller's drawer to decrease the weight a bit. how do i actually take out the optical drive? also, i heard that i can swap it out when the notebook is running...it's true right? any problems with actually doing that?
and it's not good to swap it too often...right? (parts might get loose, etc)

There's a little release under the drive and you just pull it out...... don't worry, it won't get loose... Asus has used these modular bays since the M1 4 years ago..... Still have an M1a and it's still tight.

That's what you'd pull.. but there is a little spring loaded clip that is a couple inches back.

there's a "safely remove hardware" icon in the tray that you should use to disengage the drive from windows. i suppose the worst thing that could happen is that windows freezes but i occasionally unplug thumb drives without "ejecting" them and havent had a problem. *shrugs* but i'd take the time to do "eject" them.

Really only needed for moving hardware... an optical drive that isn't reading or writing is usually fine..... same with a battery... hard drive is another story.
