Well I have a g50vt a1 laptop and it gets up to 92 c degrees when I play fallout 3 on ultra high
It used to get up to 102 degrees c but then I cleaned the dust out.
I'm still worried about it though
does your g50 get this high of temps when its under load?
I was looking at laptop coolers and the zalman nc2000 looks like the best for my specific laptop...
I need this gpu to last at least 2 years so will it if it is under these temps?
also what should i undervolt to?

At ease man, I got 92C out of the box.
Zalman NC2000 will work just fine for G50Vt.
I think 9800M GS itself (no extra cooling) will last 2 year or more, since it's not defective. But you also need to treat it well.
Undervolting could help you save the day. It cool CPU, so that your GPU is also cooler. The shared heatsink is annoying, when I browse Firefox, my GPU also heat up, I think because of the heat from CPU.
-
I just need it to last about 2 years then by that time I will probably get a new computer
Ill get the zalman for sure though, it's not that expensive and it will help some -
What gets upto 92c? CPU or GPU?
My CPU maxes out at 66c and the GPU at 87c.
These things vary, but none are bad. For the GPU, 92c is safe so I wouldn't worry about it. -
-
Mine goes up to 94c when room temp is 25c. I ordered the Enermax Aeolus CP001 online so hopefully that will help with my temps.

.
Although undervolting does not make big difference in G50 (because of its lazy fan), it is still worth to try. Maybe you will get a lot of experience, and you can tell your friend that your CPU's voltage has been changed yourself. They will be surprised (but make sure they don't know a lot about computer, or the one that get embarrassed will be you
).

Overclocked to GTS timings I get 92 when playing Empire Total War. That's as high as I've seen. CPU rarely gets above about 63.
Doesn't sound like your temps are anything to worry about. -
I made a custom cooling pad for my laptop, but I almost never turn it on. It's basically just propped up and I've never seen the GPU hit 90C yet. Usually tops out at 88-89C when it's fairly warm in the room. Before the cooling pad I hit 92 once in Oblivion.
The way the G50's cooling is set up makes it hard to directly assist the cooling fan, so a cooling pad will take away more heat from outside the laptop than inside (which helps, but not as effectively as say, a laptop which has an air intake directly on the fan itself). -

I agree with the above post. But make sure you get the one that has the little stop sign saying 'ABP'.
There is another plugin named Adblock which does the same thing, but interferes with flash sometimes, even when you disable it. -
Well Ill check out adblocklus also
I just cleaned out my laptop again even though i did it two weeks ago. The gpu temps went down 10 c (I think putting it on my bed as a bad idea because of all the dust a fuzz) I also ordered the zalman nc2000, should be here tuesday, but for now I have the back of the laptop proped up with a lacross stick shaft.
i actaully need this comp to last at least 3-4 years not 2 like I wanted it to before
college...
EDIT: I installed abp but how do I enable it? -
Is the ABP icon in your status bar? Is it red? If yes, then ABP is working. Also make sure to install the EasyElement/EasyList filters (I think both are needed but I'm not sure now, I seem to have only Easy Element now). Possibly also install Cedric's anti-tracking list.

-
Try adding the filters first, maybe it won't add the icon when it has no filters installed. (Basically without any filters it's not doing anything)

. I love the ads here, but the ads on your forum were coded badly
?
Anyway, I will give it a try. -
Actually, yes, other people did notice badly coded Flash ads on NBR. It's not like the NBR admins have any control over it, the ads come from 3rd party ad servers.
(not "our" forum btw, I'm just a mod here).
If all else fails, read the documentationon ABP from the official website.

What ads? With ABP, NoScript and FlashBlock I don't see any ads at all.
In regards to laptop coolers I don't use them at all on the G50 since they don't really help much. I rarely hit 90 while playing a game. This is the only gaming laptop I've had that works fine without a cooler. -
my computer can play games at really high settings and the gpu never messes up or anything, Just one day I was curious of how hot my gpu was so I measured it and it was 85-95 c (hit 102 c once). I have heard stories of laptops melting plastic and cracking the finish on wooden tables, but mine doesn't do any of these things. I just want my laptop to last at least 3-4 years and with those temps the gpu will fail before then, the zalman should help along with monthly cleanings.
It is a very nice laptop
ps-did you upgrade from 4gb of RAM to 8gb? -
Yes, I upgraded the memory and both hard drives. Love it!
And you're right - the G50 is an excellent lappy. -
i would like it but i barely use all my 4 gb -
You may not need it. The extra memory comes in handy when editing lengthy home Hi-Def movies. It's also handy when running multiple operating systems at the same time via VMWare or another virtualization program.
-
too bad you can't update gpu..... -
You could but it would void the warranty.
-
I didn't know that was possible....maybe in 2 years when warrenty is over and i have leet computer skills -
Need to correct myself on this one. You can upgrade the *CPU* but not the GPU as far as I know.
-
-
lol g50 cpu + g51 gpu = g71 -
Lol, that would be sweet as . P8700+260m GTX would destroy games.
-
yeah im pretty sure u can one via asus ....
if u cant just ask for someone that has the g51 to buy for u...
i heard that the g51 is getting some high temps with it so i would wait to see if its worth buying -
maybe in a few years when 9800 gs is useless and my warrenty is over -
Same.
I wonder if AS5ing the G51's GPU would make it better. -
how hot does your g50 get?
