I have very basic computer knowledge but would like to overclock my G50VT x5 CPU in preparation for Mass Effect 2.

I've tried a search for a step by step guide and couldn't find anything so would anyone mind writing one or giving me a link to one? I've read about setfsb but it looks a bit confusing. I'm looking to OC to about 2.5Ghz (currently at 2.13). Rep given out to helpful posts.

well the direct console only allows it to OC to 2.3Ghz. I have only 3 options in the CPU section. Normal, turbo and turbo extreme. The extreme is the 2.3Ghz option but I want about 2.5Ghz.

    thanks for the help +rep

200Mgz won't do you much good in games, try OCing your GPU a little to where you still have good temps with the DC2 to 2.3Ghz. Benchmark before and after to see the difference.

yeah that's why i'm trying to get up to 2.5Ghz. using the guide you gave me right now and its helpful. going to try to push 2.6GHz for CPU. GPU wise I think I'm fine. It's a 512Mb 9800MGS so it should be okay

Managed to hit 9044 in 3DMark 06 with an OC of the CPU up to 2.5GHz. With stock CPU I only got around 8000. I'll see if I can push to 2.6 today.
