hypermemory question

So i flashed the new bios version for the asus w3v so that I could take advantage of the hypermemory feature but now that ive done it, i can't seem to find how to turn it on. Anyone know how? Thanks

 

its just extra barrowed video ram. I now see I have 192mb video ram (64 + 128 barrowed).

You can see it if you go to display properties - advanced - adapter tab.

 

Ok i am not a big guru on the asus ensemble but this is first glance at hyper memory for me. What exactly are you reffering to? I know it has dual channel. Care to elaborate? I ve seen the term hyper memory used on the vga card somewhere. It means absolutely nothing. Someone pease correct me if i am wrong but hyper memory i belive reffers to the vram on most pci-e cards???

cool, so when u update the bios the computer automatically allocates a set amount of ram on top of the video card ram - termed hypermemory. cool...thanks

 

RobotMule, is there any noticeable enhancement over the stock alotment? I mean do you actually notice a performance increase in certain areas? Do other areas take any hits/suffer from this transfer of RAM? Anyone else care to comment on their experiences?

Also, what's the maximum you can assign over again???

You're not going to get better numbers in say 3d mark, but hyper memory is going to help a lot in situations like graphics programs that bomb out when it runs out of VRAM....... autocad, 3ds max, maya.... Situations where people think they need 256mb graphics cards........... they really don't.... this helps.

But does it detract from anything once It's moved over? It helps in those situations you mentioned, but does it in turn hinder others...or is it now accessible by both sides instead of just the one? [8D]

 

I don't want to say its just like cache in say photoshop or something.. but basically I think that's how it works. I have have as much experience with this as any of your guys..... but I use a lot of programs that I see benifit from it more so than give a "performance" boost as you may want in gaming.

I still show 512 MB of RAM in my task manager, so I guess it will barrow that extra memory only if a program actually uses that much.

 

Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to know...can anyone just remind me what the maximum amount you can alot over is again though??? [8D]

 

I want to say it's 256mb...... 64mb dedicated and 192mb of system ram. When you think about it, if you have 1gb or especially 2gb, very rarely are you using all of the system ram anyway.
