Ahh... very helpful.
THat 14" widescreen really looks ideal...

thank you.. atleast someone appreciates the time I put into that....
The biggest thing that bothers me is a lot of people don't understand the whole size difference between standard and widescreen. Most people (maybe no one on this forum, but many many people) think that a 15" widescreen means you get a 15" screen plus added width.... which most of us may know... but the diagram explains...Because if that is what they are looking for.... then a 17" widescreen is really what they think they want.... and a 15.4" widescreen is going to appear small.
But yeah... when you look at the size of a 14" widescreen...... you start to realize just how much is shoved into that W3v..... especially if you consider the commments I made about the batteries in the W3......
Thanks,
Justin

Proportable,
Great diagram, many thanks for that. It makes the differences quite clear. You are very right about the misconception that many people have regarding widescreens.
Surfer, nice pics. The A4 paper was a great way to illustrate it. It appears to be a tad smaller than the A4.
Now I'll just wait for a retailer to get it in stock so I can put my hands on it. -
can i use a sata harddrive on the w5 instead of the slow 4200rpm harddrive ? is there a sata connection ?
-

No SATA connection...... unless some how they come up with a converter.
Thanks,

lol I wish, but that means that will short the battery life since the SATA will drain more power...
I think..
is that right ProPortable?

Not sure what you mean....... if you mean do the sata drives use more power? If so, I don't really know yet.... but I actually think it's about the same, but a greater bandwidth.... similiar to what we're finding with the whole alviso platform
Thanks,
Justin

Hey Surfer,
Do you have any issues with the screen size? How long do you use it in one period of time? I think I want to get this, but I'm just a little worried about eye strain. I know I'm not you, so we may have different preferences, but I just want as much input as I can get.
Also, can you change the resolution at all?

sATA should use more power... but I think will only really show off their stuff on larger, faster drives anyway...... so a 40gb/4200rpm drive is most likely not even a drive that will be offered in sATA when they come out.... but I won't know till they come out.
Thanks,
Justin

Hey Justin, we appreciate what you do.
Just curious if the screen on the W5 in these pictures is anything like the screen on the W3. I absolutely love the W5 screen based on what I can tell and if the W3 screen is at all like it, that's pretty exciting!
Oh, and if you anyone wants to see the size of these ones in somebody's hands, check out some of these images from an earlier thread - remember, you're supposed to be looking at the computer, not the cute models []

Hi Surfer,
I have the Asus M5N, which is known for having a very loud fan. Are you saying that the new Asus W5G00A is totally quiet? No fan problems? -
Hi,
I bought an ASUS W5G00AE, with the following specs :
Pentium M 770 with 2.13 Ghz
100GB HD
1GB RAM
DVD burner
RF mouse
everything is great, but I use a Philips 17' external monitor for the everyday office use , and this philips monitor needs a 1280 x 1024 screen resolution for perfect display (no blur) , BUT, the notebook will only go up to 1280 x 800, or other strange resolutions such as 1392 x 1856, then to 1440 x 1920, 1536 x 2048, 1856 x 1392, 1920 x 1080 x 1920 x 1200, 1920 x 1440 and 2048 x 1536,
but I can't get 1280 x 1024 !!!
can anybody help me ??

I'm not familiar with the W5G, does it have an ATI card in it? If so, you can use the Omega drivers for it and set whatever resolution you want. Omega is basically a rewritten tweaked driver that unlocks features that the manufacturer might not have intended you to have. www.omegadrivers.net is where you can get it. I think they might have something for NVidia, too, but I can't vouch for that. I do know the Omega drivers for ATI work, because I bought a widescreen LCD and I was able to get my Radeon Mobility 7500 to display at native resolution (it was made before the existence of widescreen, so it had no idea how to drive a 1440x900 resolution).
You may even be able to just install the latest real drivers for your video card and see if the new options come up.
Good luck!

I was reading this post, and little things starting making no sense, then I realized just how old this post is...after almost reading all 7 pages..., and everything became very clear.
You really could have started a newer post, or at least added to one of the newer W5 related topics. -
Thanks Killerjay,
but the onboard video is a
Mobile Intel 915 GM/GMS 910 GML Express Chipset Family.
Should I try omegadrivers ?
Robert -
Omega drivers wouldnt work with intergrated video. Its only for ATI chipset.

Just wondering if anyone here got this laptop with the 9 cell battery installed? If so, can you take a pic?
i got my fully sick (white) W5 [:D] (pics , specs)
