hi guys,
i have a problem and i really hope somebody here can help me.
i tried to format my friend's laptop and it is asus u80v.
but when i done reinstalling the windows using a pen drive suddenly a big error message appeared.
i googled around for the solution and someone says that i need to format the recovery partition as well for that to be working.
then i reformat it again. this time using the dell windows dvd as someone in this forum says that it will work on any laptop, and we only need to use the product key provided by asus to activate the windows.
i have done that and everything seems to be fine. but the problem that i face is that i cannot install driver from asus, and it will say that this driver is only for asus laptop.
and for some asus softwares/drivers, i managed to install it successfully, but i when tried to run the them, error message appeared and it says it can only be used on asus laptop. AGAIN! and i am unable to turn on the backlight keyboard due to missing driver.
being so confused, then i reinstalled it again using pen drive, which is a clean install, but the problem still there.
please help me somebody!
i feel terribly guilty now as he's the one who's asking for my help and im kinda let him down.
please!

A dell windows CD is not the one to use. Those are tied to dell in many ways, as you have found out.
Instead, use a retail or system builder ISO, like one of these: http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...-7-download-links-just-like-vista-before.html
There are ones for vista, but they are a bit harder to find.
If you install using a generic CD, you can use the license key on the bottom of the laptop, and then install the atk and platform drivers from ASUS support. Then install everything else. -
thanks for your reply!
so it means that i need to reformat the laptop again but this time using that link? -

Yeah, pretty much... probably not a good idea to leave the Dell customized version of windows on an asus machine, better off reinstalling with a generic windows CD and then installing the basic drivers, then move on to the rest.

will do that.
currently creating the bootable pendrive for that as it is much faster than using cd.
thank you very much!
will try that and report the result here. -

The drivers are here: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-
Start with the ATK stuff, keyboard filter (under other), intel (chipset) driver, and then reboot. After that you can install all the rest. You'll probably want to reboot after installing audio and graphics drivers. -
wow you have been really helpful!
+ rep.
thanks again!
edit: forgot to say that i can only reformat his laptop this weekend because that is the only time we are free. so i will update the laptop's status this weekend. -

I had a U80V for a little while, my friend has it now, and I've done multiple installs on it (XP, w7, Debian). It's a sweet machine, too bad it never got refreshed with a new chipset. If you need more help just post here and I'll see it eventually. Good luck!
