one moment before i decide about n81 wanted to hear your opinion on my decesion...
ok the g50 gives me alot of more power with alot of less money
the question is
is the g50 really alot heavier than the n81
is it lower on battery time
and can you buy for i another year of Global Warranty
cause thats all the things that are the reason i chose the N81 and i wonder if they are correct at all
for now asus G50 and N81 are the most fitting for me with the Power to run games and the low Price! (if any of you any other models/barnds ill be happy to hear ! )
ireally aprecciate the help of the forum members and you really helped me get to this decesion ! thanks!!!
and thanks again!

Well, the N81 is 5.2lbs, the G50 is 6.18 lbs. So a difference of about 1lb.
...Not much of a difference there.
The battery time will be simmilar. The N81 may have a little more. They both have a 6-cell battery, but the G50 has a P series CPU, which uses less power compared to the N81's T series. But the N81 is a smaller screen, which uses less power than the G50's larger screen. The G50 has a beter GPU, which most likely uses more power than the 4650.
-i think they'll be close in battery life.
Depends where you are looking at ther two laptops. If you buy the N81, most resellers will offer that. i highly recommend buying from GenTechPC. HERE. And you can configure a 3rd year of warranty. 2yrs is standard.
...and you may want to fill out the Faq for other suggestions. But these two are probably your best choices. -
allready talked used the FAQ and the forum "what notebook should i buy"
and it all came down to these 2!
and now i cant decide.. can you give me anything that will help me decide?
can you buy for the g50 co another year of global warranty?
is it that heavy/not easy to carry around
and from what iv heard the g50 have much less battery time.. are you sure about it...
hamm? how about keyboard? screen and stuff like this...

problem is i love the mobilty of the asus n81
but i know its a bit lower on power
yet i dont need the g50 power .. but if its the same cost...
so i cant seem to decide
ill for now im tending more to the n81 cause of the 1 more year you can buy it with and the mobility option
yet again ill be happy to get my hand on a 9800GT laptop :/ and its the same price (even lower!)
so can anyone tell me their opinions.. im writing it here cause their both asus models and i hope ppl that use them are here or at last ppl that are familiar with the ASUS brand computers!!!
thanks again.. if you think this post is more beffiting the "what notbook should i buy" please let me now (although iv asked about things close to that there allrdy altough not those exac to models) -
Well both are almost the same size dimension wise, so that's even.
G50 offers a better gpu.
I'm sure you can probably get a 9cell battery for any of these laptops to extend there mobility.
If they are the same price, I would get a G50 just because it has a more powerful GPU.
The only negative on the G50 is the red/orange trim around the keyboard but hey that's just me. -
A few thoughts from somebody who has both:
That pound is 20% of a five pound total; the G50 also has a substantially bigger and heavier AC brick. If you're carrying your lappy a lot the difference will be significant.
The G50 is significantly bigger than the N81: it's fully the size of most 17" notebooks, while the 81 is the size of a small 15".
The N81 has an LED backlight, the G50 does not.
There are so many models of the G50 out now it's hard to make an apples to apples comparison: if you're talking about the X5 available at Best Buy you do save a lot of money and get more zip for the extra size and weight.
I love both machines but my experience has been I use the G50 as a desktop replacement whereas I use the N81 as a true notebook - in my opinion it's far more easily portable. I don't notice much performance difference between the two: my G50 (an A2) has a 2.53Ghz CPU w/ nVidia 9800GS feeding a 1680 x 1050 screen, the X5 would be faster on its 1366 by 768 screen because of less pixels to push. The A series also supports 2 hard drives and I have mine in RAID0 so I do notice faster disk performance there than with the N81; I'm not sure if the X5 has a second drive bay.
If I had to sell one or the other I'm pretty sure it'd be the G50 that would be looking for a new home... but your mileage may vary.
One perhaps important point: on the A series G50s the ExpressGate softkey light stays on ALL the time; if you don't plug the laptop in for a few days it'll drain your battery to zero. The N81 does not suffer from this "feature." -

ok iv decided to go for the N81 for the mobility and the one year of warranty
want to ask .. where can you buy a 9 cell battery?
itll be great to buy it with the computer.. maybye from the same store... how do i choose a correct battery? will it make the computer heavier?
thanks! -
The 9 cell will make it slightly heavier. The store should have the option of some customization w/ an extra battery (try XoticPC or GenTechPC for example).
-
I don't think there is a 9 cell bat for our labtops...please tell me i'm wrong
-
i cant seem to find one
does it mean there wont be one? or can i use somthing that isnt ment for it but can be connected?
9 cell battery is an importent thing! -
Geared2play.com Company Representative
The g50vt-x9 already comes with a 9 cell battery. G50vt will be a bit heavier, feel noticeably bigger, it will perform about the same however for gaming it is hands down the victor. The screen and resolution is bigger and better. It is better for movies and blu ray
-
but its alot heavier... and bigger
i cant move with it at all
too damn hard
wil the n81 wont have 9cell battery?
and what is the most mobile g50 version? because if ill buy it for the 9 cell battery compability i want it to be alot lighter! -
-
The weight of the 2nd 6 cell battery in a bag would make up for the difference in weight in the G50.
-
plus while changing the battery i will have to shutdown my computer....
so where can i buy the g50 with 9 cell battery at a price close to the n81 (1350$) with 3 years warranty?
and which model is the lightest? can anyone help with that? -
G50: For the Game
N81: For the Work -
As for your other question, the G50Vt-X5 comes with a 9 cell battery for under $1000, but with only a 2 year warranty. I'm not sure if you can purchase an extended warranty separately, but you can check with a few Asus resellers on the forum.
The N81 will be lighter for sure, but it's gaming performance is also much weaker. -
i dont have the computer yet.. iv talked about the porblem when your switching batteries isntead of owninig a big one
so your saying asus n81 wont have 9cell battery at all?! ever?! -
The N81 will never have a 9 cell battery available. The battery compartment is a fixed size and does not allow additional cells to occupy the compartment. -
For me, the main deciding factor between these lappies is size and weight. -
thats.. well sound kind of stupid ..what kind of designer blocks that option?...
i really want the n81 for the superior CPU .. for the good enough GPU... for the option to purchase another year of global warranty and for the mobility over the g50... problem is that if the battery time is only 2 hours.. the mobility is not really helpful... and if you cant buy 9 cells so you cant do anything about it!
any suggestions? -
-
i probably go for the n81 ... the mobility won for me! the n81 is powerful enough for my needs i think.. and i hope ill manage with the low battery time...
i wanted to ask something
the XoticPC site write that the computers comes with fingerprint scanner while the genthecpc not...
can anyone explain it? do the XoticPC sells a diffrenet computer?
and which store should i buy it from? if XoticPC offers fingerprint reader maybye i should buy it from them (allthough most of the ppl reommended on genthecpc) -
Both xotic and gentech sells the same N81. They both have fingerprint readers and it's probably just a typo on gentech's part. However, my recommendation still goes to gentech. I've purchased numerous Asus notebooks from them and they've always been the most courteous, professional, knowledgeable and swift with their replies to my inquiries.

the cpu in n81 is better
the gpu is the one who lacks against the g50
i wanted to ask another question.. iv seen the option to switch the CPU of the model (on xoticpc) to P9600 which mean less powerconsumption which means more battery time.. but its about 407$... too damn expensive...
the quesiton is.. is there a version of this laptop with the p9600 ?
cause iv seen the price difference and its only 20-30$! so i dont understand why they are chargin 400 for the switch
and can i change the cpu with out damging the global warranty? -
please help me with i hope last question..
can i get the p9600 in some way? (less power more battery) or maybe can i change it without voiding the global warranty...? -
i want to buy N81vp-c1 but i wonder about the G50
