I think the W2 is one of the nicest desktop replacements I've ever seen. In my view, I'd much rather have that one than the Apple Powerbook 17.

If it weren't for the builk and my needing portability, I wouldn't hesitate a moment to buy the W2, eventhough I don't need a desktop replacement.

I am getting a W2VB in the Netherlands.
    Basic specs:

    2.0 ghz
    2*512 mb ram
100 GB HD (not sure about rpm)
    WSXGA colorshine screen (glare type)
    Analog TV tuner
    X700 128 MB (all W2V have that)
Rest is standard (although not everyone gets the slot drive dvd and I am not sure about mine).

It is with taxes about 2400 euro's (although cheaper is posible)

The W2VC wich is the top model with the digital tuner prepare to cough up near 3000 euro's.

    So to summarize:

    W2VB: ca 2400 euro
    W2VC: ca 3000 euro

Hope this gives a bit of an indication

well, the retail in the US is $2699, and i don't think retailers have much wriggle room on that price.

Steve - We're not even past the last ETA yet.... don't worry... even with everything crossed I think we all know we don't possess enough luck for Asus to hit their mark. Take that as me just having a bad week, or being brutally honest..... Asus cut our expected first shipment (which was already tight) by five so they'd have units to send out for reviews. So, I think we've only got 10 spots left or something like that. That wait is never easy, but when they finally show up, it's never a disappointment.

i hear ya. i just know that they obvioulsy haven't even hit port yet, which means at least another 4 weeks... that means mid-september already... it's been a long wait, first the W1, now the W2. so far i've held out. guess i just needed to release a little disappointment.

Just because they haven't hit port doesn't mean "at least 4 more weeks".... but you saying that obviously jinxed it *thanks*...... once they hit port, we're looking at a week's time from that day to when they get to Asus and then to us and then ready for use to ship........ so, that could be tomorrow, next week, next month.... we all know what we're in for.

All I know is that the W2's will sell out before they get to us (most likely on the day I say they hit port) and we're going to have a more people complaining that it's going to take another month to get more in........ So, I guess just be thankful that you've got an order in and you're not going to be one of those who try to get their order in on the release day and be pissed off that there are none left and your wait has really just begun.... :) ... Help any?

    Add another one ...

Got on the waiting list last week. I also use a PowerBook 17 ... so this is gonna be one fine pair of desktop replacements in my life!

Just to add my own personal Mojo into the Manifestation Mix ... I'm shooting for the week of August 22-27 to have the W2V in my hands. That's my personal vision for the deal ... hope it helps the cause!
