Your games won't be maxing your CPU much. I'd be more concerned about the GPU.

Go with the i7, not fluent in this subject matter, but you want to remember this is a large investment, and you want it to still be a competitive machine in a few years. If your worried about heat get some Thermal Compound or Grease. Here is a link to one Newegg.com - SIIG AC-TG0112-S1 Ultra Chill Diamond Thermal Grease and here is a video on how to install it. YouTube - How to Apply Thermal Compound to a CPU I personally wouldn't do it myself, only because I am not computer savvy enough, at least not with hardware. Good luck with your decision.

In my experience I haven't seen much issue with the N61jq having any overheating problems. I hammered on our test model here and did not get any temps that I would say were too far outside of what normal expectations would be.

I'm with others. I would buy it stock and get the i7-720. It is much more forward thinking. Especially if it is within your budget.

    Good luck!

I've got two N61JQ's, and haven't had any heating problems with the i7. Asus seems to have done a good job of using the side ventilation efficiently. Besides, it was REALLY cool to use a video conversion program optimized for multiple cores, and see that I could turn on all EIGHT logical cores if I wanted too.

Before I took the plunge for the i7, I was seriously leaning towards saving a few dollars for the i5...but now I can't believe the speed I get from this baby. Loving it!@
