i don't think TFT is an acronym that means matte, since it's about the display technology, and matte vs glossy is just the coating. It might imply matte though since, like Goren said, they make up names for the glossy screens.

TFT != matte. TFT is a technology used to make LCD displays. The matte or glossy texture of the screen is just the coating that the maker chooses to use.

TFT is not the same thing as matte. TFT is the technology of the LCD it has nothing to do with the coating applied to the surface.

I hear other people making this mistake though too.

Consumer: "Can I get this in a glossy finish?"
Sales Rep: "No, it only comes in standard TFT."

In the W3J preorder thread Justin said that Asus Taiwan wants to buy back the A8Jm from Fremont because Taiwan wants to place more emphasis on the W3J.

So i guess for those of you that want the A8Jm, you should act now and make your purchase.

The A8Jm isn't a great deal anyway, imho they can have it back. 1730$ CAD for something lacking bluetooth, havin WXGA res with a 7600.. AND windows xp home..

Id rather get the S96J for 1350$ for the same specs only difference is 15.4" versus 14" and the S96J doesnt ship with an OS.. Thats a good thing, i have my own.

well, the a8jm is a portable gaming unit with DVI in which you can hook up to BIG screens and play games on it or w/e else.. lol.

The a8jm also has possibly better build quality and i think that's about it.

Now for the S96j it is definately a good notebook, its not as good looking as the a8jm nor does it have dvi and is not as portable like the a8jm.

The big trade off is price and customization.

The S96J is the best for the buck, but the a8jm is a better value in the ensemble line.

    Thanks,
