Have issues with windows 8 on an x55c-si30202m machine continually locks up, owner hates the windows 8 interface.
They have a retail copy of Windows 7 on a previous machine that is no longer being used.
How difficult, and what is the process for turning the x55c-si30202m into a windows 7 machine?
Would it be easier to just replace the HDD and install W7 onto it?
Iam having a hard time finding the exact specs for this machine using the serial number and the ASUS site..just gives me a general information page and that page lists it as having windows 7, its got windows 8...what gives?
it also lists 4 or 5 different HDD's, nothting speciffic about this machine.
http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/X55C/#specifications
.
any advice?
Thanks

Specs will vary by exact model, which can also vary by region, so they just put up umbrella specs. If it came with 8 from factory and is a UEFI based system, you'll need to do the following to install 7 on it:
1) Enable legacy BIOS/CSM, or disable UEFI boot
2) Disable Secure Boot
3) Convert the storage drive from GPT to MBR using DISKPART command line
4) Format drive, arrange partitions however you want, and install Windows 7. -
I actually chatted with and ASUS CS person and they gave me the instruction to do the following:
•Enter the BIOS setup menu by pressing and holding F2 key when powering on.
•Switch to "Boot" and set “Lunch CSM” to Enabled.
•Switch to "Security" and set "Secure Boot Control" to Disabled.
•Press F10 to save and exit.
•Press and hold ESC key to lunch boot menu when the notebook restarts.
I also transferred the recovery( windows8) partition to a Flash Drive prior and tested it by running it and reinstalling windows 8 completely, even after that it was really unresponsive, lagged and locked up.
So, in then installed windows 7, deleted all partitions and a "fresh" drive.
had to download the Ethernet driver and USB driver on my system, install them and W7 is flying along, system works great.
One little issue:
NOW when windows is booting or shutting down, there is an ASUS background image that i cant get rid of, looked in BIOS, nothing regarding full screen splash screen.
Not sure how to get rid of it
UPDATE:
I seem to have resolved it somehow, i went into the asus theme, changed the background image to the windows image, shut it down( ASUS logo screen still present), restarted,( asus theme remained) changed it back to an aero theme, and did some no critical updates that were left , required a reboot which during the asus screen disappeared -
Here is simple method to install windows 7 on asus notebook.
