ok i know i seen a link a few times around here with descriptions on building asus notebooks. it was a link to a list of them and had step by step instructions for each. anyways i need this because i just recieved my new 1g mem stick and went to install it and can only find the 1 slot with the memory which is already installed in it. so i replaced my 512mb stick with my 1g and have to do something with the original stick. i did search the forum first and cant seem to find anything. any help would be great. thanks.

It is under the keyboard. Smilepack usually links to all the instalation guides. Pick any entry where you see his name and you'll find a link.

thanks guys. well i just installed my 512 and my computer is only seeing the 1g. do i need to 1g sticks, like identical amounts to get it working? on my desktop i just put misc. sticks as long as they were proper types and it would see all of my ram. right now i have the 512 that came with my z71 and the 1g i bought off of newegg. the only stick it sees is the 1g.

hmm, the only reason you would need a matching pair would be if you want to run it in dual channel mode.

Perhaps the ram is not pushed into the slot all the way?

Just wanted to confirm: Is the z71v is upgradable to a full 2GB of RAM, or is it upgradable to just 1GB?

    The installation/upgrade guide ( http://www.synnex.com/sb/docs/june05/Z71V Training.pdf) says that

"The Z71 Series Notebook comes standard with 2 DDR sockets onboard. You can upgrade the total memory up to 1GB with two 512MB module."

ineedalaptop, which RAM did you get from Newegg?

    Thx

    It's 2gb max.

    1gb for each slot.

I think that was the suggested amount of RAM?
