Is it worth the 600 dollar upgrade or no?
does it make a noticeable difference? I do game a bit.... but I do way more video encoding ..... how much of a difference will it make?? 600 dollars worth? or barely noticeable? I should I use that 600 dollars and get a 300 dollar SSD and a 300 dollar HHKB?

I'd wait for the 940XM if you are willing to spend the money. It's significantly faster, especially if you have a notebook properly equipped to overclock it. Whether or not it's worth the money is up to you.

If it can handle a 920 XM it will be able to handle a 940 XM.
    TPB is the same.

    TDP? :D

But yea, the 740QM, 840QM, and 940XM will be out in Q3. They're each one step faster (the 740QM goes from 1.73Ghz base to 2.93, for example).

Personally depends on what you are doing. I only do casual encoding, web browsing, office work, some gaming.

For me, having a 920 would make no difference over having the 720.

Since they showed up on Dell's site last week accidentally, do you think they made the error way ahead of schedule, or maybe they are coming out sonner than that?

    OP: short answer, no

longer answer, no, use that $600 on a nice SSD and/or wait for the (very close) arrandale refresh chips to go public, then buy an i7-740/840.

It is very close to releasing the 940XM which is a step up from the 920XM. I would wait

I just jumped on the deals for the 720, as I'm sure the 740s probably won't get coupons for a while. Don't need the top notch speed, so saving some $$ was worth it.
