Which sub-model of the M50 line are you talking about? It's undergone a few revisions over the past few months. Generally, the -Bx series draws a little more power than the -Ax series due to the processor, but it can be easily offset with optimization because the difference is only a few minutes.

M50Sv - Below average battery life, it reached 2 hours at most (on 6-cell), IIRC

M50Vm - Battery life improved substantially, most likely from the Montevina platform refresh. In my testing, it ran nearly 3 hours (on 6-cell)

M50Vn - Newest model, so there hasn't been enough circulation for consensus, but I'd assume it would be similar to the Vm, depending on the 9650GT's power demand.

    I was looking into

    ASUS M50VM-B1
    and ASUS M50VM-B4 model

It seems throughout these people are having issues with these laptops so i am a lil worried - but some peopel also have excellent stories with them

its between an asus that i listd and the sony fw series.

but the asus seems to have a way better standard warranty!

Unfortunately, none of Asus' current models are likely to substantially break the 3hr mark, regardless of the tweaks applied by those members here.

This is an issue throughout all of their product line. The dedicated gpu systems just don't have the power with the 6cells - most end up 2.5-3 hours depending on usage pattern and system stress.

Umm Clear skies, check out the n80 review. The owner got 3 hrs while installing, downloading and doing some other naturals things.

This SHE technology that asus combined looks sorta promising.

Yes, it seems ASUS are starting to climb out of the pit of battery life where they've been in the past few years. I don't know numbers for recent models though. If the OP is interested in the M50 series, I'm sure the reviews will mention battery numbers.

Right, exactly what I said -- won't substantially break through the 3 hour barrier (i.e. 3.5+) and 2.5-3 includes 3 hr :) :). That N80 review with the light usage @ 3 hours works out to be nearly the best one can regularly hope for time under low stress.

I will concede and agree with EBE's points that maybe Asus is finally making improvements on this front, but qualify by noting that the larger N/L series is yet unknown as these have only been out for less than 8 weeks so have no real track record. Here's hoping, however, as I long for the days when Asus' products like my W3 got 4+ hours (w/ 8 cells) when new....

    thanks guys for the replies.

I was hoping to get at least 3 hours or so as my current LG, but the thing that is wining me over to asus is their warranty and the fact u dont have to fork over for a second year!

    thats the plus for me.
