    hey
I need a laptop .. and i've been looking around everywhere.
I stumbled upon this site and I must say i've learned quite a lot.
Could you guys look at the specs of this laptop and tell me if it a an okay laptop for a student. I'll be doing a bit of surfing on the web, microsft office and maybe a few games. the laptop I want should be able to handle the more recent games.

    It is an Asus A8JC-H015P
14.1 inch TFT (WXGA) Color Shine
    Intel Duo Core T2300 (1.66GHz)
    NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7300 256MB TurboCache™
    512MB DDR II 533 ( 512x1)
    100GB 4200 rpm
8X DVD Super Multi Double Layer
    Modem 56K V.90 - LAN 10-100 Fast Ethernet integrate
    1x VGA Out, Audio in/Mic, 3xUSB 2.0, Firewire, 4 in1 Card reader, TV-Out, Bluetooth, express card support
    10/100 Base, WLAN 802.11abg
    ASUSDVD/Driver CD/Nero Express 5/ Power Director 2.5ME/ Medi@Show SE 2.0/ Norton Internet Security 2004/ Games(May changed at any time)
    2. 0.35M CMOS
    Only 1.8Kg
    Windows XP Pro

I would love to have the w3j but im not in the financial position too, so maybe this is an okay replacement
BTW I'm located in the netherlands in Europe and the cost of this laptop is 1189 euros which is about 1467 U.S. dollars

    Thanks a lot

Overall it's a solid pick...I wish the hard drive was a little faster, but for normal computing/gaming, you should be fine. The graphics card is a solid one.

Nice thing about it too is in the future, you can upgrade the RAM to gain more performance...just note that this RAM is 533mhz which is a little slower than the optimal (but more expensive) 667mhz variety - note that if you do add RAM to it in the future. Say you want to go to 1GB, you're better off getting 1-1GB 667mhz stick rather than another 512MB 553mhz - especially if you become more concerned about top performance...

Wow. Almost ~1500 USD for the A8JC which has the go7400.

Wonder then how much the A8JM is giong to cost? Unless that price is just due to the exchange rate.

In Europe we pay taxes ;)

The first list price for the Asus W3J in Denmark is ~$2800 . . . but that is just plain silly.

It should cost the same as the W5F that goes for $1899 in the US.

Those taxes are just criminal...I really really feel for you guys.

I don't get why you get taxed for buying things...especially considering you also get taxed on what you make - and your property and.../rant.

In all fairness, we do get our education for free, not to mention free health care ;)

It's just because it is the first store to have it and then they jack the prices all up. Good thing that I can buy it without the taxes but even without them, the price is still higher than in the US.

    hey guys
    thanks for the replies

yeaah about the tax thing. Its just so much, but what can you do about it.
Some laptops are reasonably priced or so you think until you see: "price without tax".

but yeah. Do any of you know where I can check if the a8jm will be available for Europe? Cause that one looks nice too.
