I finally got my g51 up and running but I am having issues with the stock 260m. If I have it installed it doesn't show any video. The screen is gray from back lighting and you can hear it start but still no video. If it makes any difference this is running off battery only as my 90 watt generic power adapter wont power it on alone.

When I swap out the video card with a 9800m (I believe. it looks like the 260m but has 512 ddr3 memory instead of the 1gb of the 260m) it works but I can't get any video drivers to install. It just keeps giving me an error message of no nvidia driver components or something along that lines.

I am guessing this is an indication that the 260m is on its way out or dead already. Would performing the oven trick save it or am i better off just using the other card?

    Thanks
    matt

    Did you flash the vBIOS?

    Was it running hot?

BTW, get the driver for the 9800m from laptopvideotogo and also use their inf file, that should get your 9800m working.

I don't know if it was flashed or if it was running hot as I received the laptop with a broken screen. When I start it up the fans usually kick on high even though it is seated correctly.

thanks for the link for the drivers, will try it this afternoon.

Try a blind flash with an original 260m vBIOS.

That's a pretty good idea, now off to learn how to do the blind flash and practice doing it :D

Alright, got around to messing with the 260m today. I first read the old bios from the card and it is identical to what it is supposed to be. I went ahead and tried flashing the bios back to it, but it didn't make a difference.

When it does boot, (sometimes the buttons just light up and the screen does nothing) the screen starts out all white and if I let it sit for a few minutes black bleeds in on the sides. I am really starting to think there is a cold solder joint somewhere.

I am going to try the oven trick on it and post back what happens.
