Okay, so this thing comes with Windows 7 starter and 1 gb ram.
i am about 80% certain that, even though there is no 'official' way of upgrading the memory, i.e via a door at the back, the people of the internet have confirmed that you can take the case apart, and stick in a 4gb stick, and then install windows 7.

    First question:

    1. can i install 64 bit windows or will it only do 32bit? according to wiki, List of Intel Atom microprocessors - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, it says it supports 'intel 64', does this mean that this N2800 processor, in this motherboard, in this particular netbook, will support 64 bit?
Lets say I try installing w7 64bit on it, what would happen, would windows just say 'no can do' at setup, if it doesnt support it?

    2. Memory. How do I know what type of memory to install? again, on that wiki link, it says 1 × DDR3-1066 so presumably if i just bought a 4gb one of these, it should be fine?
or are these builds like desktop builds where its important to check what the motherboard is capable of? Or is it the case that for these netbooks with these atom processors, the motherboard architecture was defined by the processor as it were, so I can rely on that wiki information?

EDDDDDDIITTTTT: well, i think ive answered the 2nd question, found this thread, http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/664503-netbook-1025ce-will-take-4gb-stick.html
people are also talking about installing 64bit on it so i assume its fine.

so...doesnt matter. please delete this thread. EDIT:

    3rd question.

    3. how do i make a backup bootable recovery disk, incase i want to sell this thing as original in a few years time..... can i just use the Asus software that I have on my other big brother Asus N56 and make an .iso that way?

    4. DRIVERS etc..... after i install w7, what do i do for drivers? Asus website doesn't have any for this outdated machine.

It's interesting to see a netbook that can handle more than 2GB, perhaps it is supported in Intel's secret book.
According to Intel's official spec, the processor only supports 2GB of DDR3 RAM, see below.
    ARK | Intel® Atom

    1. N2600 is also a 64-bit processor, which means you can install 64-bit OS on the system and to benefit the 4GB RAM.
    2. Memory support is DDR3 1066MHz.
    3. You may not be able to use that software from N56 to make an ISO from your 1025CE because it is intended for the machine it was preloaded into.
    4. Intel actually released 32-bit drivers and I did not see 64-bit drivers available from Intel's own support site.

ASUS support site still have drivers for it.

thanks. i actually have an N2800, and that intel link you provided does confirm that its 64 bit (instruction set, presumably that means it supports it right), And
Max Memory Size (dependent on memory type) 4 GB
    Memory Types DDR3
    # of Memory Channels 1

in CPUZ, currently, this is what it says, [IMG]

doesn't that mean this 1gb stick is currently running at 667x2 = ~1333mhz? (ddr)....so...i should be looking for a 1333mhz 4gb stick of ram? Not 1066?

Check Memory tab in CPU-Z, it will tell you the current frequency of your memory, and double of that number.
See attached image, 933 * 2 = 1866MHz (sample shot taken from a different computer).
