is there any way to do a clean new install of vista if the merchant did not provide me with an os cd but only a recovery cd and drivers cd.
-
No, all you can do is delete any unnecessary programs and clean the registry for example with CCleaner.
-
Or you can just use the recovery CDs, and not put in the Drivers disc to install the drivers if it asks you.
Or do what CeeNote mentions, which is much easier, since there isn't much to remove(3-4 things max). -

Does CCleaner run properly in Vista? But, I agree with the previous two, just uninstall the very few things you don't think you want (my V6j had one thing to uninstall).

When you have finished playing around with your new V2, please give us a review or at least a few comments. I went to have a look at the V2 at my local asus dealer and it looked really nice.

My V2JE is shipping now, and I am glad that's you got one!
I just want to ask if anybody ever added RAM (another 1GB) to this laptop can post a few pictures/instructions? I intend to do this in a few more weeks. -

Here's a review a review I have written on the V2JE. Click Here.
There's also links in my sig to other reviews, I have written.
The ram location is located in the middle of the bottum of the laptop. Look at the pictures of the bottum of the laptop, you will see the ram compartment. Remove the screwn place the ram in and make sure it snaps in properly, then boot. -
Thanks! Here is another question pop up!
Would adding more RAM void the warranty? -

This is debatable, technically no, it does not void warranty to upgrade the ram. But technically it does because ensembles are not suppose to be upgraded, unless the dealer is willing to give their own warranty for the user who customizes their notebook.
Some who do upgrades from 2x512gb to 2x1GB, keep the old ram, just incase they have to send it in for service so that Asus doesn't know you have upgraded, same goes for the hard drive.
Most people here do, do ram upgrades. -
The only thing is, if you plan on shipping it back, you're not really *supposed* to be shipping them back the added components, only the components that came with it. That's what they usually tell you, and they're technically not responsible for any missing components on the way back, though I don't think I've ever heard of them ever intentionally removing it and then shipping it back...
For barebones, you're technically supposed to return the unit without anything in it unless it has something directly to do with the problem and they specify that it's okay to return it with it.
If you've ever had to send back a Toshiba to their depot, they actually have this questionnaire sheet which they give you to fill out the problem and specifically asks you what you're sending back and if you added/changed anything like more RAM or changed HDD, for tracking purposes. -

I have had my V2 for about 2 days. I was able to add another stick of 1gig ram into it quite easily. It's just one screw on the underside of the notebook.
My machine came with the HD partitioned already into two 60 gig partitions. -
Anyone have an answer, or should I post this question in the software section?
just bought my new v2
