Hey people
w000t... the z63a arrived a day earlier and I got to install win xp and most of the other drivers. Now, I have some questions.
#1. Isn't there supposed to be somekind of an ASUS logo or something when you first switched the notebook on? (right now I am only seeing the Centrino logo on bootup before it turns striaght into the win xp bootscreen)
#2. In the driver cd, there are a couple of utilities included like powergear, etc. Is it necessary to install all those software/utilities?
#3. I never really expected the bag that comes with it to be pretty good (well, i haven't brought it out for the stretch-run). A question for people using it: is it big enough to contain the notebook with all the necessary cables and some notepads/file folders and a thin textbook??
#4. There is this empty frame that came in the box (I figure this is to be used as a media-bay battery). How's the battery life if you use both batteries? How expensive is the media-bay battery?
#5. Any tips/guides for me to ensure the maximum performance out of this nice machine? also to prolong the life (I intend to keep this for at least another 3-4 years down the road)
Thanks a lot.
Ditto to ProPortable. I got my notebook within 5 business days of ordering (I am on a tight schedule).

The ASUS logo is supposed to fade in on startup (kind of like a powerpoint transistion), but it can be turned off in the BIOS (F2 btw)
Don't bother with powergear, get Centrino Hardware Control instead, much better program with more options. I can't remember what else was on that CD.. umm Probe was a good program, but unnecessary. For drivers, download the latest one either from the manufactuer's website (good) or from Asus website if you can't find it on the manufacter's
I use it to carry my notebook about once a week. It holds the notebook beautifully, but it doesn't have a dedicated space for the power adaptor or a mouse. I usually put the power brick in the middle zipper compartment, and it causes a budge that could impede on room or make things uncomfortable. Without the powersupply, it can hold the notebook and small text book or a few actual 'notebooks' just fine, with the powersupply, i'm not so sure.
keep the vents clean, don't abuse it, and you should be good to last

I would advise you to flash the bios to the latest version...it is really easy to do (you do it in windows with some WINFLASH.exe utility that is avaliable for download from Asus' support site).
Glad to hear you like it so far!
I have had my Z63A for just under two weeks and I am absolutely loving it! -
Okie. I will update the BIOS. How much did u get your z63a for?? mine is probably lower-priced coz I didn't customize it to the high specs like yours.

After shipping and the 2% student discount, it was like $1430.

Really? I have the full-screen logo bios option enabled, and all I see is the centrino logo when I boot my z63a (this is with the latest bios, by the way).
If you're interested, cococrust, I paid about 1250 from ISTNC... this is for a 1.73Ghz processor, 512MB ram, 60GB harddrive, and a 1 year warranty. -
Updated the BIOS using the winflash utility, but my situation is like Bootstrap as well.
Wow, hehe.. all 3 of us bought it from 3 different places.
just got my Z63a and finished installing win xp
