k53 is 14 inch, with the smaller form-factor. The n53 is the 15 inch with the larger parts, the neat speaker system, and a bigger keyboard.

Imo, buy neither of those two. If you want a cheap-top anyway, then buy the n53 with the amd apu setups (if you can get one - it's n53tk-sv something). A lot of performance for the money if you want something that isn't also going to melt your thighs when just using it as a typewriter. But still is capable of running games reasonably well.

If that's not the focus anyway - if you're not going to use it for gaming or 1080p movies - then find one of the smaller laptops with a better keyboard. A backlit one with the keys that come out of the chassis, for example. And aim for a e-450 or a cheaper i3 setup. That will be sufficient for writing on, and anything movies and so on will run well on the screen you have. And you will have more battery life out of it.

If you want a gaming laptop, then drop all of that and go for something with a dedicated card. I mean, there's a reason why some retailers are literally throwing those asus laptops away. It's because they're not interesting for the upper segment, and because there are cheaper and prettier alternatives out there for the notebook use they're kind of intended for.

So if you're getting one, and spending that kind of money on a laptop anyway - then buy one with an amd fusion setup and the extra dedicated card. If not, imo, get a cheaper 14 inch and buy a large sata2 ssd with the extra money.

:) I would go for the 14 inch with the better processor.

Sure you're not able to work something out with the seller, though? I mean, if you wanted a bit more solid laptop with .. you know.. slightly more aluminium than absolutely none at all, and so on, like the k53 and n53.. then there are things like the HP Pavillion dv-6 in the same price-class. They are old now, but they are pretty enough to put on the living room table.. in the way that the n53/k53 isn't :p

Sorry, not much help, am I.
