was about to storm into my local ASUS retailer and get me some M70VM-C1 action -- was also hoping to get a 64-bit Vista version. (need the RAM, as i use PS, ID, DW, IL often all at once, plus email and browsers.)

but to my chagrin, on the ASUS support website, i've discovered a paltry selection of 64-bit drivers/utils.

    when i get to here:
    http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

    and then here:
    Download > Notebook> M70Vm

and select the Vista64 filter, there's only a smidgen of drivers available. nothing for the webcam, or BT, or touchpad/fingerprint reader, or audio, or remote, and other key components.

reading up on the AsusTek forum, someone suggested that 64-bit drivers for the G1Sn would be compatible; but looking at the hardware versions, i'm not sure this would work (or work well).

the M70VM-C2 will ship shortly with Vista Ultimate 64-bit installed -- so there must be hardware-compatible drivers with that.

any suggests or ideas on what to do or where to find 64-bit drivers for this notebook?

Asus is probably just their usual delayed bunch with updating the drivers on the website - they tend to always be slow. With the imminent release of the -C2 model, you're right that 64b drivers will/should be available..... patience is a virtue :)

curious! didn't know that about ASUS. guess i'll hold tight for the C2 release.

what's also interesting is that there is no option for Windows XP either. so if one were to downgrade, they'd be hard pressed to find drivers as well.

Many of Asus' Vista drivers will work for XP, and sometimes older model XP drivers will also work on newer hardware, but it varies.

Asus, and most other manufacturers now, do not release XP drivers for new hardware, as XP is officially an out-of-date and out-of-production (end of life) OS which they have no reason to support on their new hardware.

All 64bit drivers is already included in the Drivers DVD.

woo-hoo! great news! i am this (><) close to blowing a bunch of cash today then!

Ken, just to confirm: even if i'm getting a version with 32-bit Vista, the drivers disc also has the 64-bit as well? have you or any of your clients had a successful installation with a fully-HW compatible Vista 64?

oh, i can feel my AMEX card heating up.

I think the driver CD supports 32+64 bit Vista, yes, regardless of what version of Vista you get with the notebook, but I'll leave a final confirmation to Ken.

Some ars hole at B&H Photo tells me that the buyer there heard directly from ASUS (TODAY) that the M70VM-C2 is a no-go and that another model will be coming out later in its place. Anybody else heard this???

    Thanks,

I have a m50vm b1 and have loaded vista 64 with no problems at all. there was a few drivers that were outof date from the drivers disc so I stated installing all the updated drivers first. chip set utility, latest nvidia drivers, latest wifi, intel storage matrix drivers, sound card then used the drivers disc to finish my install. never tried 64 anything before this notebook (lack of hardware support) it's been running like a top ever since. I also picked up a 16 gb expresscard and now that I have an acronis backup on the expresscard, i'm free to experiment. it was such a smooth install that I had to check that 64 got installed and not 32!!

Mustang Sally: thanks for the heads up! if the G71V doesn't show up in the next few weeks, my fall back might be the M70VM.
