I finally got my z63a and was installing the drivers for it. There is only 1 thing that's making problems wfor me currently. Somehow the LAN driver thats included in the CD does not install. I downloaded 1 from ASUS website but that does not install properly as well. Everytime I click on the exe file, it will ask me whether I want to install 'Yukon Gigabit Ethernet' and when I click ok, 2 secs later the error msg "driver not installed, etc" appears. I did the other way as well (go to system component, under the ethernet controller [which has a question mark beside it since I havent installed the driver yet], I select update driver).
Does anyone have any solution towards this problem? I can get online no problem as the wireless has been installed and I have a wireless network at home. But if I would go to the office or school, I still need to use the LAN. At home, the LAN is a necessity when I need to transfer huge files. Thanks in advance.

That's extremely wierd. Don't know if it matters, but do you have Service Pack2 installed? Also, have you tried doing a WindowsUpdate and see if it'll find a suitable driver for you? Because it should work with the current driver on the Asus site: http://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Z63A/LAN_XP_050624.zip

Yes. I have SP2 installed. That's the driver that I downloaded from ASUS site. What kind of network card does asus uses in the z63a? do you know?

My W3A (same as Z63A) has the Marvell Yukon Gigabit ethernet adaptor. The latest driver files I found on the Asus web site (look under W3000 series for the W3000A) is called LAN_XP_050914.zip but the zipfile contents are all dated 20 October 2004, and are the same as the link already given. The text file might give some clues about solving your problem.
I cannot see a .exe file for the XP installation. If you used the 2ksetup.exe then this might be confusing XP. The best route is to first unzip the drivers to a known place then go to the device in Device Manager, uninstall any existing driver and then try to update the driver (or use the Add New Hardware option in Control Panel). Then point XP to the place where you unzipped the drivers.
Hope this helps, but corrupted driver installations can be a pain to fix.

ok. Thanks John. I will do more testing. If I still can't fix it, I might reformat and reinstall windows again. The last step would probably be sending the laptop in for 'diagnosis + repair'. I got it from ProPortable and I think they are pretty good with support.
I was under the impression that the w3a and z63a is kinda the same, except for a bit of hardware here n there (built-in bt and better graphics). I was kinda short on cash so that's why I went to the z63a route. -
Did you try Windows Update?
