    hi,
I wonder if someone could help me.
I've got an almost constant high pitched noise coming from my laptop since I got it back from repair 3 months ago. What's more, sometimes a second subtler vibrating noise accompanies the louder one.
It still remains after I disable the sound card or mute the volume. When I plug in the earphones, the noise persists.
However, when the CPU starts to do some work the noise becomes intermittent. Also, when I turn off the laptop, or play something on it that uses the audio output (mp3, youtube ..etc), the noise ceases.
Has anyone got an idea what this could be?
Any help would be much appreciated, coz thing is driving me crazy.
    Thanks

This could be related to CPU throttling, does it happen when it's plugged in to AC power or only on battery?

Also please post the model # of your notebook ;)

Yeah there is noise across the system bus and interference from other components, that goes with any integrated audio, but if it's excessive it can be due to a power setting or drivers related to CPU throttling. Fan motors can also cause that kind of noise but it'd be more obvious.

Edit: Also the most obvious thing lol... bad grounding or dirty power... if you have that problem (like I do), try plugging your AC adapter into a power filter or a good surge protector.

    Thx for the quick replies.
I don't think this is CPU whine, coz my laptop hadn't emitted this kind of annoying high pitched noise before I sent it for repair (the problem was that the fan was rattling/crackling and the OS was corrupt out of the box). Also, this is in addition to the usual hum.

Unfortunately, it keeps on making the noise whether on battery or plugged in.
Btw, my laptop model is Asus M50SV.

I found this web forum during a search of high-pitched noises cuz i'm having a similar problem, but I'm not sure if its the same thing as yours.

A high-pitched electronic noise (DEEEE DEEEE DEEEE DEEEE, etc) is emanating from my Toshiba Satellite L350. Its very quiet... I can only hear it because I have sensitive ears... its just barely audible, but it gives me a headache every time I use my laptop.

It is interrupted when the computer thinks, or if i scroll through a page, or type a key. Other than that, it is going non-stop when the computer is on. It occurs both when I'm running on battery or AC.

Interrestingly, the noise seems to be PERFECTLY in time with the clock... two DEEEE's every second.

Bizso, is this the same thing you're experiencing? Anyone have suggestions on how to stop it?

Here's a more accurate description of what I keep hearing:

There is one that is constant, very high pitched, and very annoying. The second is a great deal louder, little bit lower pitched, but still high. This one is very noticeable and sometimes becomes intermittent. Furthermore, when the audio output is in use, the second noise goes away (note: it doesn't matter whether or not I disable the audio device, the noise stays). Nevertheless, the first one remains all the time. Then there is a third noise, which comes on and off with the second one. This is more like a vibrating noise.

man, I just sent my laptop to Asus and though they've solved the corrupt OS and rattling fan problem, they now have screwed up the hard drive electric circuits. I'm so mad :(

p.s.: It gives me headache too

I would call tech support and put the phone up to the laptop so the rep can hear what you're talking about. If it's bad enough to give you a headache, that's unacceptable and needs to be RMA'd.

These sounds will not reach them via phone... phones have a very limited band of sound frequencies that they allow.
