hi everyone. I'm shopping for a laptop that I'll be using for law school in the DC area. There don't seem to be any asus retailers around there (that I've seen)... I was wondering whether it is wise to consider ordering from someplace not in the area. I'm concerned about the possibility of long down times if I have a problem.

I also was wondering if quality varied within the asus line. I'm looking at the V6J.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

You have to order an Asus from an online retailer. I'd go with geared2play, powernotebooks, or gentechpc. I went with gentech because it was cheaper and so far I have only two minor problems, both of which Ken helped me out with in less than 10 minutes. Having to send off your laptop to get repaired is going to take a while no matter what you buy and from where.

What laptop you want depends on what you're using it for, but I'd recommend against the V6J because if you want a pre-built Asus you should go with the w3j which has a smaller screen and a graphics card that's 50% more powerful.

If you're going to buy an ensemble (asus pre-built), you will need to send it to their faculty in Fremont...CALIFORNIA.

If you get a barebones asus (customized from a reseller), you get the reseller's warranty. Look for reputable resellers in the DC area. Geared2play is in New York, Proportable is in Pennslyvania, Gentech is in California (I think), Powernotebooks is in Nevada, and c9tech is in Kansas. Whatever floats your boat...

Use resellerratings.com to your advantage and talk to the reseller. If you don't want to do that, read the Asus forum here and use that reading comprehension that all law students had to possess for both the LSAT and law school.

    Actually we're in Missouri...
I'm proud to say that, especially after having to drive that entire boring state to Denver and back.
Nothing personal Kansans, but you know what I mean... get some hills or something. :D
