Hi all,
My apologies if this is listed elsewhere, but search turned up no help. Recently had my graphics card in my G2S-X1 die, and learned the hard way this has been an issue for this line. Unfortunately, mine is out of warranty (by 4 months...) and so I'm trying to see if I can afford to fix it. I understand I need to replace the motherboard with the card, as they are a soldered unit. So....
1) Anyone happen to know what type of motherboard I'd have to order if I was going to have one of my computer tech friends swap out the motherboard/graphics card for me? Trying to see if I can order it myself without going through Asus...
2) Anyone know what the potential repair cost might be? (Given the issues I've had with the computer, the spouse has given me the OK to just get a new gaming laptop if this one's repair cost is excessive - like, more than $500, and thinking it probably will)
3) My thoughts are since the line has a history of motherboard/graphics card problems, that a repair (unless it came with a great warranty on the repair work) may just buy time until it fails again. Anyone attempt this sort of thing (replacing the motherboard) with any degree of success?
Any other thoughts are certainly welcome.

The motherboard it self costs $285 from the Asus estore

They are currently out of stock, but if you call, they should be able to order one for you.
If you need the disassemble guide, it can be found here:

My apologies, I should have been more clear - I had looked at the eStore site, but wasn't certain of my results. (David, I think that one is the G1 board, I think the one I found was $385 -

and appears to be for the G2 series.) My uncertainty on this was the presence of the graphics card - I know that for the G2S-X1 the motherboard and graphics card are a single unit, so I wasn't sure if this board on the eStore site included the graphics card or not... My guess was no, but again I'm not sure, and they're also out of stock on that one (with the Asus reps I've spoken with being unsure as well on the details of what is included and when the parts will be in stock...)
Again, sorry, should have mentioned that I looked there, but was still unsure. -
My apologies for linking the G1 mobo.
For the G2 series, the GPU is soldered on to the mobo, so if you purchase the mobo, it will include the GPU. However, you should contact Asus to confirm this in the unlikely event that the GPU is missing. -
Since there is no hardware that lasts forever... Joking aside, if your failure was due to the well-known by now nVidia GPU fault, then you may in the worst case be buying only less than a year. So you may still consider a new computer instead.
Any other thoughts are certainly welcome.[/QUOTE]
