hi
was wondering what the internal 256mb ram speed was?
and if the extra 256mb shipped is the same speed?

The M5n takes ddr266 (and it about a year and half old)
The M5np took ddr333 / the M5a (z33a in the US) takes ddr2 400.
Yes the built-in ram is the same type and speed as what the open dimm takes. -
The M5 series only uses micro sodimm whatever DDR266 or DDR333, but the price is expensive than the regular DDR sodimm. A 12" LCD screnn is more protable than all the models, seems to be a good choice.

Actually the prices have become more better, but the entire purpose of them was size and weight.... they're half the size of an sodimm....... Asus basically uses them in the S5/M5 series as well as a couple models they make for Sony.... and that's about it..... That's one of the biggest reasons it's more expensive.. besides fitting more memory onto a smaller stick, it's only used on a handful of laptops (and that's giving a lot). Shaving weight and size where ever possible is something I love as long as the price is reasonable..... if you've seen the inside of an S5/M5, you'd understand why it's used... there just isn't room for a full sized so-dimm.
The M5a (z33a) which is the model that has been out for the last 6+ months uses ddr2 400......... I think the main issue here is the original poster isn't clear..... Either in the fact that they're looking at a much older system (M5n) or that the "extra 256mb that shipped is the same speed" .... that doesn't make much sense unless someone was selling it with a 256mb stick as part of a standard package..... but regardless, we're talking about someone who isn't being clear...... -
um, well i think i was being rather clear, i did say m5n, and not m5np or z33a.. and obviously when i say 'shipped with the extra 256mb, it's not hard to understand that it came with a 256mb stick in the open user slot as "part of the package"
so regardless, i could be dealing with someone who can speak "more better" with a bit of respect when replying
i have found kingston 512mb microsodimms for around au$180
code is U6464C250

Oh - Ok... well I thought I was dealing with someone who may have been mistaken, but I was wrong... you're just disrespectful and have less of a grasp on the english language than anyone else post.... yet you make a joke towards us? Good luck getting help from someone else.
Your post left a lot up to the imagination and if you already have the unit, letting us know that would be good. If you don't, we take it as you're looking at a new unit and hence the confusion. -
Might be have some confusion when having a communication. M5N(P), S5A, Z33A, all of the also built-in 256MB memory, on the bottle of them, ONLY one memory slot for micro sodimm 256MB or 512MB and their max. support to 768MB, either 256MB(built-in)+ 256MB or 256MB(built-in)+512MB can be available in the market.
i also confused it by this before, because no many laptop built-in memory!!! -
a simple concise answer would have been sufficient; such as "ddr266" and "yes", which i do understand that you did reply with, and i do appreciate it. although in your second post i didn't appreciate the personal attacks..
that's all i required, and is all i asked
i don't think i have any problems with the english language. my question was simple and did not require you to comment on the clarity of my questions. statements such as "less of a grasp on the english language than anyone else post" and "and it about a year and half old" suggests to me i'm not the one with issues with clarity, since they make no sense and show lack of knowledge of past/present tense... or your 's' key doesn't work very well
i was not making a joke towards "us" (i assume you're referring to other forum members), you are in no way representative of everyone on this forum; it was directed at you
if you're going to get narky about people's n00b questions, and obviously it happens so often that it drives you to post how you did, then why post at all?
clear enough for you? -
Woah guys... cool down.
