Well, as of late my GPU is getting real hot (100+*F) and my one speaker is not working so I have decided to try and fix these issues.

First, I guess I will be applying some thermal paste to the CPU and GPU. I was wondering if there was a write-up for this. Also, is Arctic silver 5 good enough?..or do you recommend something else?

Second, im thinking the speaker wire just got disconnected. I have the disassemble guide, but it doesnt mention anything of the speakers. Is it accessible by just removing the back panel?

*My gpu reached 107* while playing COD4. I didnt really notice lag or anything and I didnt BSOD, could HWmon just be giving false numbers??

Actually, 107 * Fahrenheit (F) is pretty cold. Did you mean Celsius? If so, then it is really really hot.

What GPU do you have ? I think most would clock down at 105. Did you notice any change in gameplay ?

    Man, this is very hot.

As for the paste, I've used AS 5 a couple of times and I liked the results: 3-6 * C drop in temps. The drop in temps could be even more for you, depending on how bad the paste that is applied to your system right now.

I've heard, however, that IC Diamond thermal compound is even better, but unfortunately I have never tried it. This will be my next paste that I'll try.

Also, make sure that you blow the dust out of heatsinks thoroughly - in most cases this is #1 reason for high temps in laptops that I've seen.

Sounds like I will try that IC diamond, and yea I plan on getting a dust can hopefully tomorrow to see if thats the problem.

    Any input on the speaker?

its could be dust trapped in the computer. Try opening it up and clearing the dust out. Also if the vents are under the laptop, try propping it up with something like a wallet or buy a cooler.

also the rubber mounts on the bottom of the laptop could be wearing down so it sits lower thus the vents on the bottom getting less space for air? idk just a thought
