A popular site on these forums is NewEgg.com. I don't buy from them personally because I have to pay tax, I'm in CA. Average price on a value 1gb stick is about $100-120 for a bottom line price.

So I went to crucial's site and I can't find the z70va model for ram. But they have the ram for z71...is that the same ram? the site lists DDR PC3200 • CL=3 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR400 • 2.5V • 128Meg x 64 as the ram for z71. Plz lemme know!

Nah, you need PC2-4200 533mhz...not the 3200 400mhz...newegg.com and zipzoomfly.com have some great prices on the Kingston modules (which is what I've got), which are a great balance of price/quality.

    http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=85016-72

BTW, the Z70VA should support the PC2-3200 memory, but you'd sort of be shortchanging yourself by getting it when your laptop supports the faster PC2-4200...

z70va can support many different brand of memory of PC4200(DDR533) single channel or dual channel such Kingston, Coriairs, Infineon, Samsung, KingMax..... whatever you choose what brand of memory, you should run a memory software test and make sure no any error.

Does PC4300 work as well? or it must be PC4200?

same thing... it's all 266/533MHz DDR2. And you definitly want this. Not only is it faster AND SUPPORTED, it also synchronizes your CPU, FSB, and memory, resulting in a significant speed boost over asynchronous operation, which is what would result with PC3200.

flaxx...it synchonizes your CPU, FSB and RAM? I had no idea~! I didn't do too much reading into the tech in today's new chipsets yet, as I did for my desktop nForce2 chipset...GOOD TO KNOW~!

I thought it was still running off a ratio or something...SWEET~!

I offer a suggestion for ram...yes get the pc2-4200/4300 533mhz ram, but look for Apacer Technology ram...it's inexpensive, runs great, and it actually performs really well. I did some checking online and this ram runs faster than some mainstream name brand ram modules like Corsair and such~! My unit's memory infrastructure runs faster than the test unit on the website~!

Sorry I have no links...just google Apacer ram :D

    Cheers,
    Mike

Here's a link to "the ulitmate boot disk" ..... it really is very good and as long as you can make a bootable cd, you'll have all of these test programs at your fingertips.

    http://ubcd.sourceforge.net/

    I use it often.

ChazMan421...I just did some reading(just a bit) and couldn't find the difference between pc2-4200 and pc2-4300 modules...maybe the 4300 modules can handle lower timing rates? or they're the same thing just named different? pffft I dunno...maybe you got some ddr1 modules by mistake? =/
