Guys, what the heck happened to the catalyst 7.3 for mobility radeon on the ATI site? It looks like they pulled support for all mobility cards period. I'm on a V6Va and ASUS will not release any drivers for vista for that notebook. I'm also running XP and the mobility detector from ATI says the V6Va isn't supported either. So my question is, how do you get a decent graphics driver running for either vista or XP on the V6Va?

7.3 doesn't work for mobility radeons in Vista. If I were you, I'd download 7.2 which works well for me.

So as not to start another thread on this, here's my question...

I have a brand new V1jp, which has worked quite well with most of the software I've thrown at it...except various games that provide graphics through OpenGL. Basically, the problem is a complete lack of OpenGL drivers, so it should hypothetically be easy to solve. As far as I can tell from browsing here and elsewhere, the latest Catalyst drivers for the x1700 for Vista do no include drivers for OpenGL. In fact, there seems to be a complete lack of OpenGL drivers available for Vista, which I guess requires me to wait for ATI or ASUS to produce them.

Is this a good summary of what the current situation is, or is there another way to get OpenGL support?

    Thanks.

I think the reason this post was made is because ATi now made the link to Mobility Drivers for Vista into a (hopefully temporary) link to a support article about how we should talk to the OEMS for drivers.

Please see this post for the same topic: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=116536

Three Stars: Don't use Vista if you want OpenGL, does XP have that support?

P.S. Don't think it's just ATi, nVidia is even worse for this, they don't even release any mobile drivers for anyone on their site and you always have to go through intermediaries and wait for them to hack up the desktop drivers and post them.

    Cat,

I didn't get the impression in my reading that OpenGL and Vista are mutually exclusive, and I know that my XP desktop has no problems whatsoever, but unfortunately for me the laptop is the one with the state-of-the-art graphics card.

So, no luck with OpenGL drivers?

ATI just posted the 7.4 Catalyst and I got it to work with my Acer laptop. The way I did it was to first install the 7.2 CCC suite, then download and unpack the 7.4 -- of course it refuses to install... but once it was unpacked I manually updated the driver and selected the closest thing to my mobility radeon x1600... which was a X1600 Series. It loaded the driver and seems to help Opengl quite a bit. In fact... KOTOR is actually very playable now in vista.

Very cool - now we started discussing that in http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=1927123 . The drivers having been unified and only now being crippled to remove the mobility support, rather than being special and seperate as in XP can realy help. This has the potential to be just the thing for people...

Considering this might be a good thing to put in a bigger post just on that topic. A lot of people could find it very useful...

So im running an x1700 card can I still install 7.4? This stuff is as all new to me and very confusing. Never had a desire to mess around with graphic cards, I was mostly a console gamer, and only used what came with my pc. Thanks for any more insight.

EDIT: So I dont make a bunch of threads, is there a program that can tell me how much fps that im getting? Especially for WOW, the game runs like crap, which it should'nt with my setup. When I walk it's very choppy....I'm on Vista if that helps. Thanks.
