I just bought my A8JP but have a problem with the monitor refresh rate. On the laptop LCD, with the refresh rate set to 60Hz and 1440x900 resolution, I have no problems. But when I connect my Proview PL926w 19" widescreen monitor and set the resolution @ 1440x900 I get these horizontal lines that run vertically up and down my screen and after a while it gets annoying. I tried to turn up the refresh rate but the only refresh rate I can select is 60Hz. Those horizontal lines are getting to be hard on my eyes when I'm either gaming or just browsing the web. Any suggestions as to what I should do?

    Try this: Click Here

Also, it seems this may be a hardware limitation.
You may want to just test the External Monitor at a lower resolution and see if that works.

Let us know if the solution in the above link works.

Hmm no such luck. I tried forcing my only output to be the external monitor and the only refresh rate I can select for is 60Hz. If I lower the resolution, it'll let me increase the refresh rate, but I want to keep the resolution @ 1440x900.

Also, I dunno if this is important, but it seems the VGA cable connecting my external monitor and VGA out isn't secured because there aren't pinholes in the VGA out to connect the cable to the port...i think its common with all a8jp though.

Any other suggestions? So you think its a hardware limitation? Then why do I not see the horizontal lines on my laptop LCD and only on the external monitor LCD?

I don't think the refresh rate is causing your problem. There is no need to have a super high refresh rate on an LCD any how.

Hmmm I dunno. I went into ATI's CCC and looked at the resolutions that would support at least a 70Hz refresh rate. The highest resolution was 1152x864 and it doesn't even maintain the 16:10 aspect ratio that I need for the monitor. All other resolutions available at 60Hz and 70Hz are not for widescreen either. Anyway I tried one of the resolutions that would allow me to increase refresh rate to 70Hz (but ast the expense of a non-widescreen aspect ratio) and those **** lines are gone.

I know its not the monitor b/c I've used the monitor @ 1440x900 at 75Hz on my home computer equipped with a ATI X700pro. So I'm guessing it could be a hardware limitation of the x1700. Is there anyway to force the refresh rate to be 70Hz?

It seems to be a hardware limitation, I never doubted the screen, however if my memory serves me right these GPU's are suppose to support higher resolutions, much higher.

The only thing I can suggest is make sure you have the latest drivers.

whoa I just noticed that if I unplugged the AC adpater from the a8jp, the flickering lines are gone. Could it be a power source problem? And if so, why is it causing it to happen?
