Well.. Newegg has the F3jp with WSXGA+ /1 GB/ 120GB/x1700 for a low price of 1499 , compared to the beast ogf a G1 with the same res scree, identical processor but 2Gb/160Gb/go7700 for $300 more.

For me the x1700 is plenty fast, and all other things on the F3jp make sense, minus the 2x 512 MB ram which would be a pain to upgrade to 2 gb if I need to, but doubt I will.

Having said that, if I intend to keep this system for a period of 2-3 years without upgrading, does the F3 make sense as compared to the extra moolah for the g1? The G1 lacks express card while the f3 has that, and newegg ALLEGEDLY reports a 4 hr battery life (lies) for the f3 as opposed to the G1, but under normal usage , shouldnt they both be about the same at about 2.5 hrs ?

does the fjp not have the BT2.0 + EDR ? I'm confused as to the reliability of this info, and seek help in clarifying it, and some advice as well. TIA!

f3 has inherent issue with audio dj. It is also possible it has inherent issue with network card. definitely not the f3

could you elaborate a bit more, or point me to a thread with more info??

I want a WSXGA+ or a WXGA+ notebook (14/15 incher) that also has BT, Core2Duo and about 3 hrs of battery life , which brought me down to the A8js/p, F3jp and G1 ( out of price range). Out of these, the F3jp seemed like the best fit....which is why I am keen on it. Oh.. and I need intl warranty which is why Ensemble's only :(.

Would love to hear your take on it. Thanks.

Actually, if you are not a gamer, the ram will not matter much. If you are, the ram will be the choke point/bottleneck within the next 6 months...then, by all mean, you have to get 2GB. The G1 will win on that round.

i play calssic games, not much of a hard core games, so the 2 GB may be overkill, but it sure makes the G1 quite futureproof.

If someone can point me in the direction of a thread that discusses problems with the F3j series, Id appreciate it, since I cant find anything concrete in the search, just scattered posts mentioning speaker issues, and Gearde2Play's post was the first I heard acbout network issues....

wonder what more there is that I need to know??? :-S

Sorry, I could not find any either. It seems the F3j isn't too popular.

Hmmm. I'm in the same boat at you. I've had both of those items in my Newegg shopping cart. The only thing keeping me from the F3J is it's bland looks compared to the G1. But like you, the G1 is kinda pricey.

the g1 uses a lcd screen that is a rung up in quality and is higher resolution

that is its major difference to consider.

the f3j is smaller and lighter though.

these are similar machines. I would get the a8js over the f3j if that was my price point.
I mean i obviously already did but I cant see anything going for the f3jp over the a8js and they cost exactly the same.

you feel secure carrying its greater size? You like setting the games a step lower with its weaker gpu? Its lower resolution dimmer screen exercises your eyes? you have a use for 2 512 mb ram dims youre going to throw away down the road?

nm that even. make a s96j with 1 gb 100 gb hd t7200 for 1200

take the 300$ and buy an i am smart hat because it has 95% of the parts in common.

Isn't it more suitable to compare F3Jp with V1Jp?

hmmm..thanks Stamar... Im kinda hoping the A8jp comes in stock at newegg... that is still my #1 option..the F3jp just caught my eye of late..... I appreciate the input...

My main reason with not going for an S/Z is because I need intl warranty, and only the ensembles offer that.....

I think you're thinking of the wrong F3Jp, unfortunately it's a common confusion. There is an F3Jp with a WXGA resolution screen, and then there's the one with the higher end WSXGA+ screen.

Trust me on this one, as i have the latter, and the screen (except for a little graininess in movies because i haven't done the bios thing yet) is lovely... especailly compared to my SXGA lcd monitor... the glossy finish makes games look much better...

what's the issue with the DJ Audio? i haven't noticed any problems with the audio coming of it yet when compared to any other laptops i've dealt with in the past... and my network card accesses a 54mps G network just fine, (and my gf's B network), i haven't noticed a single hardware problem with it (although the windows wireless setup and the intel wireless program want to fight over who gets control...)

I am a bit confused over here. Isn't the F3JP a 15.4 and doesn't the higher end version of the F3JP come with a WSXGA+ screen. The A8JS is only 14.1 and it comes with WXGA only. I would think that the the 15.4 and WSXGA+ would make it better than the A8JS. Appreciate it if someone could confirm since I plan on getting the F3JP from newegg soon. (Just waiting for the price to go down a bit hopefully :) . ) thx

there's 2 versions of the F3Jp, one is a WXGA resolution (1200x800) and costs the same as the a8jp... the other is the WSXGA+ version, it costs a few hundred more...

We'll i would go with the F3Jp right now. It's only $1299 vs G1 at $1799 and there isn't that much of a difference between the two minus the $500.

how big of a difference is the resolution to you? i mean, for only a 1200x800 resolution this is a fairly big laptop, that's a res better suited to smaller models...
