I think I might write a review....
anyway,
initial imrpessions:
-amazing design, the pictures that the resellers and asus use absolutely don't do it justice, check out this link for better pictures
http://www.overclockzone.com/infoissue/02-05/Asus_NB/index4.html
-VERY PORTABLE, VERY LIGHT. This thing should be easy to carry around
-amazing screen! awsome resolution for a 15 inch. It's perfect, no need to turn on big fonts yet there is a lot of real estate. I don't at all mind the lack of widescreen
-poor trackpadmaybe i can adjust the settings to make it better
-I forgot to update the thermal paste to artic silver and I just got the 'standard thermal paste', does it really matter?
more later...
-
-
Standard thermal paste is just fine.
Arctic Silver is overrated...all it really does, theoretically, is lower your CPU temperatures under HEAVY LOAD by a couple of degrees; nothing significant.
Let's see some pictures soon -
Update your trackpad, www.synaptics.com is the site I believe.
Congratulations hehe -
Congrats! Looking forward to your review! :asus:
Still waiting for mine. . . . . . -
I'm waiting for mine aswell. All this talk over it makes me giddy as a school girl
Now I just wish Proportable would send me my tracking number and confirm the NBR deal. -
What are your specs? Custom?
-
I wonder if someone can compare the Sony XBRITE screen to the Asus V6va.
-
I've been hearing about two different types of screens Asus offers, Colorshine and Colorbrite (or something else???), but I've been wondering about the difference between the two of them, and which ones which, since it can get a bit confusing at times
-
There's ColorShine(glossy) and CrystalShine(high brightness). I believe all of the glossy screens that Asus offers are considered ColorShine and CrystalShine...kinda like you can't have one without the other. (V6Va, W3, W5, etc.)
CrystalShine CAN exist on its own though...(case and point: V6V)
Then there's the regular matte screens that Asus offers... (Z70Va, Z33a, Z61a...etc) -

How is the heat issue on the palm rests? That's a concern for me. I'm having a custom build with a 7200rpm drive.
Thanks. -
Would you tell me the hard drive is 4200rpm or 5400rpm?? if it is 4200rpm, do you feel slow??
how about the screen size, you like 15.1 inches, or 15.4 wide screen on?? -

ok its 100gb@4200 rpm, any where u read 5400rpm is a honest mistake by the site.
The screen is 15.1" NOT Widescreen.
Its glossy (colour shine) and gots crystal shine for high brightness.
as for how slow it is.. i dunno, lol don't got a V6va
But i doubt you'll notice a big difference, but possibly about 5-10 secs wait time difference on some hard core games.. but this is just a guess.. compared to the 7200rpm HDs.
This question can be best answered by Proportable.
Thanks,

It has been repeated many times that the hdd is 4200 rpm on the v6va. And imo (even though I don't have the v6va) 4200 rpm is just much too slow to be using, but keep in mind that you can upgrade, and just stick the 100 gig in a 2.5in enclosure. I have an 80 gig SATA 5400 rpm on the laptop, and at times even this goes a bit too slow, however, most of the time is fine.
If you want to know if you like widescreen or not, go you to your local best buy, comp usa, etc, play around with a normal 4:3 screen and a widescreen and see which one you like better. This is a PERSONAL preferance. Just because one person likes it doesn't mean you will. -
Any more impressions?
I'm hopefully going to get mine tomorrow. -
-
After a few days of usage, some more impressions:
-Yes the right palm rest gets hot even on just regular use (i suppose the hard drive is underneath it?), it doesn't bother me though. I can still rest my hand on it without discomfort. The bottom part of the same area also gets hot.
-Very quite machine, fan noise even on High Performance setting is low
-the optical drive seems somewhat slow, I don't know the read speed...but to someone used to desktop machines it seems a bit on the slow side. Still it doesn't bother me
-The best screen I have ever had the pleasure of using. VERY BRIGHT, VERY VIVID, VERY CRISP, and also it hardly reflects! Great viewing angles! To me it seems like all the pros of a glossy screen without the cons.
-After fiddling with the trackpad settings, it isn't so bad anymore but not as good as some others I have used.
-I have not gamed with it yet, so wait for my review which should be up next week -
Wow... i really wish I could see what that screen looks like. ColorShine and CrystalShine with IPS... sounds intriguing.

What do you think of keyboard? I have to smack my keys to get them all to register. I'm going to get a replacement keyboard but I'm wondering it's a design defect. -
Recently, i went to CanadaSys to take a look V6Va, it is very nice machine and come with a crystalshine or colorshine LCD screen. The keyboard is similar to z70va(the punch feeling), a light weight and thinner than z70va. All the color is gray-dark color and look beautiful.

Punch feeling? I don't get it. Maybe you mean it feels like a toggle button, such as "emergency light" buttons in cars?
I like the feel of these types of keyboards, and the sound also. ThinkPad keyboards are great also, just a different feel, I can't say whether or not it's better or not because it's all a matter of preference.
Yeah I guess you can say when you type it makes a "punch" sound hahaha, never thought of it that way.
Are V6v keypads just like the Z70Va where the spacebar is slightly lower in level than the surrounding palmrest surface so you miss pressing it sometimes?
This was annoying at first, but now I am used to it and miss it once in a while.
Cheers, great purchase that thing is sexay~!!!
Mike -
I'm a huge fan of the Thinkpad keyboards. They are great.
Yea, I think the spacebar is a little lower (can't check right now) because I miss it pretty often. -
My keyboard doesn't have that problem, so it must be only on your unit. The keyboard on this machine is pretty nice, though not as nice as my friends Thinkpad or the one on my Powerbook g4.
my V6Va is here!
