...it goes through the entire shutdown process, then automatically restarts. the computer then tells me it is recovering from an unexpected shutdown, then loads vista. i've scoured the internet for a solution to this problem, but can't find anything.

is this a common problem? is my machine defective? i'm completely fed up and frustrated at this point, and i'm fighting the urge to just rma the damn thing. any help is appreciated.

    Do this for me please:

    1. Go to your Start Menue

    2. Right click on "Computer" and select "Properties"

    3. Click on "Advanced system settings" in the left side bar. If UAC is on you will receive a popup asking you if you want to continue. Continue or allow, do whatever it asks.

    4. Click on the "Advanced" tab and then click on "Settings" under Startup and Recovery.

    5. A new window should open up. Focus your attention to the System Failure area. Uncheck the box next to "Automatically Restart".

    6. Close all the windows and shutdown your system.

    7. Your system will now bluescreen and report that an error has occured. Please take note of the error code and the description. Post the exact error code in this topic.

    Thank you.

I look forward to helping you resolve your issue. :)

thank you very much for your post, however since my last bump things have taken a turn for the worse. my baby will now only boot in safe mode :(

i've been disabling different drivers and startup apps to try and find the problem, but to no avail. i'm just gonna back my files up and f9 this baby back to her original state. no sense in pulling my hair out. but again, thank you for the attempt, people like you are why i love this forum.
