    hi all newbie here.i have an asus n53jg laptop with the I3-370M CPU(onboard hd intel vga chip),was wondering if anybody knew if I could upgrade to the I7-820QM.I know this cpu doesn't have an integrated graphics chip on it but I have a have a Nvidia gt415m dedicated card in the laptop.will this vga card kick in to power the screen when the old cpu is removed.hope this all makes sense.thanks in advance.

    In short: I don't think you can. The i7 has a different nm fabrication than the i3, so I doubt they're interchangeable in the same board/socket. Although I believe both - being from the same generation - use the same G1 socket, I don't think you can upgrade to the i7.

    thanks for your help prostar,ive opted for an i5-480m instead,now to the dreaded laptop dissection.

    Good choice since it wont have worked as your machine is optimus based and the display ports are hooked up to the integrated chip meaning without it, no displays at all.
