    Hi there,
I have owned an Asus N55SF for around 5 months now, and so far it has been a reliable laptop that has more than met my expectations. However this morning it has stopped working properly for seemingly no reason. It was working flawlessly as always until I shut it down for lunch, and after I came back, it refuses to boot up properly. It makes it almost to the desktop, where it then displays a message box on a black screen asking me to "Please Wait". After a couple of seconds this message disappears and the desktop is shown, but it is basically frozen. The mouse works but no programs can be opened, not even the start menu, and some of the icons on the taskbar (notably the network and virus protection software) do not show up. Does anybody know what could be causing this?
    Thanks for your help!

I had exactly same issue on my laptop a few days ago. Turned out it had installed some automatic windows updates that messed it up.

I started in safe mode and used system restore to like 3 days earlier, now it works fine again, even with the windows update applied.
