    Hi all

i have downgraded my new n750jv to Win7 (clean install). After having installed all the recommended drivers and only few programs (Office, Photoshop, Lightroom + antivirus and some utilities) I noted that the machine is *very* slow. I know the HDD is a bottleneck but I was expecting a more performing machine - it feels like w8 was much faster than w7, which also feels slower than my previous i5-520m laptop.

Is there any way I can check whether one driver is not working properly, or one is missing (device manager is fine). I was also thinking of benchmarking the machine with w7 and w8 (i have images for both) and see what is the difference in performance. Any suggested benchmark tool for everyday use?

oh, last question: how do i see which graphic card is currently in use (intel or nvidia)?

    thanks!!

Windows 8 is faster then 7 so that will be part of the issue. Where are you seeing the slowness, during boot up or program start times? Most likely it is the HDD holding you back.
To check on drivers you can take a look in device manager to see if any have a yellow !

I dont think Asus has any indicator lights which show which GPU is being used. You'll have to look by game performance.

I'm trying to install Win7 on a new SSD Drive on N56vj, having problems with the bios, I enabled" the launch CSM option in the BIOS, AND 2) turned off the secure boot option in the BIOS. it asks me to create, name, and provide booth path. did you have to deal with this problem?

I see slowness when starting programs. It takes some time to start up Photoshop 5 for example. More or less the same time of my old i5-520m with 7200rpm and 4gb memory. Asus has 16gb but 5400rpm...

Your read/write times are based on your hard drive not the RAM. A 5400RPM is the slowest currently made and is whats causing your slow speeds. Upgrade to a 7200RPM or even a SSD to get much much faster speeds. Jump on YouTube and search for 5400RPM vs SSD and you'll see the difference.

Aperion, one thing you should note. The haswell cpus offer up a lot of new power handling options that ONLY work in windows 8. At this point even if you dislike metro, I advise against downgrading to windows 7 on gen 3 and 4 intel chips.

You can verify your drivers with the verifier.exe tool in Windows, but it does not sound like fault of any drivers. As long as you have no "!" in Device Manager, it sounds like you're fine on that front. As Hutsady said, Windows 8 has a slight performance bump to it over Windows 7, but your hard drive probably is the bottleneck here.

If a SSD upgrade is out of your budget or plans, I'd recommend at least a 7200 RPM drive or a hybrid drive.
