    Hi...

I am trying to buy a new laptop, and I was wondering the hdv editing capabilities of both these laptops:

    n81vp-d1
    G51Vx-A1

Will they both handle hdv editing well? Will I have trouble using either of them with editing? I am leaning towards the n81vp-d1 because of the size...

    Thanks for your help!

    Adam

I think you would probably benefit from the quad core and larger screen with more resolution in this case. the vga card is not important but resolution and screen size is. g51 would be my pick

How much worse would it to be to edit on a 2.8 Dual-Core vs. a 2.0 Quad-Core?

It would really depend on what your editing but in video editing, screen space is very important so having that 1080p resolution on the G51Vx-A1 may be a big priority for you.

i cant say it would be worse. if it takes you 1 hour to render a video on a quad core it may take you 1.1 hours to do it on the dual core. rendering is very cpu intensive and quads vs dual core is barely an improvement considering the dual core is higher clocked. i am not sure what the advantage is but i would be surprised if it made a difference more then 20% when rendering.

I would only be editing 720p from my Nikon d90. Would a 2.8 Dual-Core in the n81vp-d1 be enough for that?

it would be plenty but still there are many advantages to the g51 besides what is mentioned. you can use the dual hard drives to your advantage to reduce system load. if size and weight is an issue though i probably would go with the n81

    Thanks for the help everyone!

One last question...I have been reading forums online regarding 7200 drives vs. 5400...What do you think the real world difference would be between the two regarding hdv editing and photoshop?

I was thinking about maybe upgrading the n81vp-d1 hard drive to 500gb...But it would have to be 5400...It comes with a 320gb 7200 drive...Should I stick with the faster drive, or is the more storage going to a better idea?

    Thanks!

    Adam

Oh! My Bad :) I just looked on a few sites and you are totally right. I don't know why I thought you could not buy 500gb 7200 drives.
