    3dmark05
    7400 scores around 1900
    x1600 scores arounf 3400+

i use '+' as it hits 4300 in the acer travelmate 8200

basically 7400 is low end but will cope with todays games, x1600 is mid range and will cope with most next gen games

the x1600 is equal to a X800 Pro in desktops which isnt bad at all. can run any of todays games and most of tommorows.

the 7400 is a replacement for the 6200 go. so the x1600 will beat it up pretty bad

Yea, the x1600 is like a new kind of graphics card, but the 7400 is more like a replacement for the 6800. But I don't know why, but I always prefered nVidia over ATI.

No offense here, but I don't think the 7400 replaces the 6200. Instead it replaces the 6400, the GPU most commonly found on Sony VAIO FS series laptops.

no, thats a good call. no offense taken. besides, the 6400 is just an overclocked 6200 :) so we are both right :)

Thanks for the replies. It's a bit dissapointing that the V6j will have the 7400 then.

If you're into Linux, however, Nvidia might just be the way to go. The caveat here are the words "Sony" and "proprietary."

Think of the go7400 as a suped' up go6400, which puts it at almost the performance of a go6600 mobility. This card should handle todays games at medium settings without a hitch, and it will still be a respectable card, especially for a laptop as thin as the V6j. As others have said though, if you are a 'serious' gamer, wanting to run games on high settings with more detail, you would be much better off with an ATI x1600.
    Hope that helps,
    Steve

Thats dissapointing. Because the current V6Va has a X700 thats faster than the 6600 go, so why would the updated model have a card slower than the current one?

Exactly. I understand the V6j is too thin for the X1600, but why not just leave the X700 in there? The 7400 Go seems like a step backward in this case.

I was definatly going for a 15.4 inch screen in an asus initally, so once the z70va got eliminated, I shifted toward the newer v6j. But now, mainly because of the graphics card, I am shifting toward the w3v myself.

Myself as well. I think a lot of people that were originally looking for a Z70va refresh will migrate to the W3j. Asus really left a bit of a hole in their refreshed lineup.

I'm looking at the W3J as well. I see that the Acer 8200 was referenced earlier, with good benchmarks for the X1600. However, will the processor difference of 2.0 (Acer) vs. 1.66 (Asus) result in a substantial difference in game experience?

    Thank you!

    Regards,

    Adam

No the GPU takes pretty much the full game load. there will only be like a 5 frame a second difference because of the cpu. you will have no issues running any game that the 2.0 can run. the most important thing in gaming is. one GPU then memory the more the better. and for load times 7200rpm drive. and if you need some extra speed increase lower the sound quality.

Thanks for the info SRD. This helps me quite a bit in making my decisions as I'll be less concerned about the difference in core cpu speed and moreso in overall gpu capability.

But the X800XL is significantly faster than the X800 Pro though.
