    Hi all,

I just received a shiny new A7J-R004M and have a couple of problems. I dont know if its me being stupid or if there is a genuine problem with the machine.

firstly, the inbuilt TV tuner doesnt seem to work - it is not detected by Xp - doesn't show up in device manager and when i go into tv settings in media center it says no tv tuner found.

my other proble is i cant get the remote control to do anything. IR is enabled and the remote control driver and app are started, but nothin'

    any ideas?

A7J does't build in a TV tuner, but z83v comes with it(They have the samilar look). TV tuner can be put it in a slot in z83v and the card cover is on the bottom. You can check it out in your A7J. Of course, if no a TV tuner there, you cannot find out any hardware device in device manager, it is not available to install the driver as well.

thats not true in this case - it has a big sticker on it saying built in tv tuner and came with all the leads for a tv tuner. it even has a socket on the left side for the aerial connection. this is the UK model A7JC-R400M

I am currently concidering buying an Asus A7J and I was wondering if anyone could post what they thaught were the Pros and Cons about the machine.
Could you also talk about the build quality please.
I was also wondering if anyone knew of any UK highstreet shops which sell Asus computers, I haven't managed to find anything yet.
Please let me know if you have any info.
    Thanks

What type of remote did it come with? Windows media center only works with an MCE remote. If it came with a remote from the maker of the TV tuner, That will only work with software from the TV tuner. It will not work with MCE.

If thats not the remote you have. It wont work with MCE

Also, if it's a Windows XP MCE remote, did it come with the external IR Receiver, or only the remote? For my desktop, I ordered the MCE separately, and it came bundled with the external IR Receiver, which is connected via USB. If you're using the IR on the laptop, is there software to act as an "IR Manager" similar to Bluetooth? Since you'd be using a generic IR port rather than the IR designated for the remote, you may need software to sync the two - once that's done you should be set.
