I`m in the market for a new laptop and I noticed Asus have released some interesting new laptops lately. The A6 might be just what I`m looking for (15.4 inch glossy screen. ok specs). I have a few doubts though.
- Is the A6 well built, similar to the M6 with it's carbon fibre metal chassis? Or does it feel cheap n plastic? Fake brushed metal plastic is not my thing and I need something that lasts.
- What about battery life. It's not documented anywhere.
- How do Asus glossy screens compare to Sony Xbrite screens? From what I understand the M6 lacks one, that's why I`m interested in the A6.
- Is it quiet?
Too much questions for now maybe but if anyone already got their hands on one, I would like to know what you think. Currently I`m doubting between the Sony FS and Asus A6.
Thx.

Which Asus A6 are you interested in as there are numerous models available. And I think all A6 except the one with the x700 card, are matte finish?
in any case, i never seen the A6's screen (and seeing as how you are from the Netherlands, would have much better access to all the A6 models out there).. but from what people say of the W3V.. its good, but not as good as Sony's X-Brite..
but hey.. i find Asus to be a much better value. -
I think the A6 A or C with MPentium chip & 5400rpm disk & 15.4inch screen. Best I try to check it out in a store or someting. But any users opinions are still welcome of course.

Yes and no. It's somewhat more stylish than the older A-series chassis', but not as good looking, nor as sleek as the M6 (Z70). It's mostly plastic, but frankly even the low end Asus notebooks have a excellent 'feel' to the build quality compared to any other brand in the same market segment. My biggest complaint, like with all of Asus' previous A-series would be that it still has a somewhat 'fat ass'.
Solely on itÂ’s own merits, discounting price, I'd say it's a C+ chassis, but in the price range it's likely to operate it'll probably earn an A or a B grade comparatively, depending on configuration and competition.
Tis is based on an A6U, but I'd guess that all A6 are mostly the same.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Thx Bug,
I looked at those images and it is indeed a bit 'fat' at the back. Also noticed that the screen has a matte finish, doesn't look very glossy to me. Maybe it's the pic or something.
Do you happen to know anything about the battery?
The doubts, the doubts. I`m getting crazy deciding.

Those press pictures could just be a mockup. Anyways, they have models with both matte and glossy screens in the A6-series. The A6K and A6V are advertised as having a 'Color Shine LCD', while the cheaper A6U and A6G are not. Hell, they might even qualify several different panels (for the same model) and change the supplier based on price and availability. Most manufacturers do. Never judge an notebook LCD by pictures only.

8 cells, 4400mA/h, 14.8V, 65Wh. How well this translates to real world battery life will, of course, depend on the model in question.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
hrm colorshine is not the glossy one right? thought crystal shine was the glossyness like in the w2
-
PROPortable Company Representative
"Crystalshine" is just a high brightness display
To confuse you more, Asus said technically you could have both... like they call the screen on the W5 both..... but I think that's a mistake becasue it's just as bright as the W3, but they only call the W3's screen a colorshine. To which I must believe that all colorshines do have the higher brightness anyway...... so it's sort of like a model enhancement... if you have colorshine, it's the top level and it's also super bright.......
But as a general answer to your question... you're wrong, colorshine is the glossy screen. -
Where can I buy the A6V here in the states?
-
You can't. You can, however, send Asus North America an email stating that you think it's really cool and all and that you hope they'll (re)consider whether to bring it to your parts of the world.
You never know. -
dam.. all i want is a 15.4 wsxga/wuxga glossy screen with a ati x700 or nvidia 6600 and the azalia chip.
no one(reputable) has this - its either glossy, card but no res other than wxga or the res, card but no x700 or 6600 grrrrrrr
