Hello, i will get the G50VT-A1 in around 1 week and already want to prepare :D

    1. So lets start with that demo software @vista:
Should i just uninstall them? If yes with which programm ? Or just with the system preferences -> software?
Or maybe its better to completely reinstall vista?
A compelte re-install would be my favourit tbh

    2. Vista recover parititon?
I read smth about a recovery partition which helps to get the vista pack on the "virgin-settings" :D
Is that rly usefull, how should i backup it or should i just let it be as it is ?

    3. 2 Harddisks:
I somewhere read, that it is better to install the OS (and some programms which wont take that much ressources) on C: (HD1) while installing games which will need alot of ressources on D: (HD2). Is that true?

    4. Give me some links for usefull vista programms :D
To boost performance , codec packs, nice windows themes which won´t take much ressources ,....

    5. Expressgate:
What is that express gate? I read smth about editing in bios so you get the advantage of this express gate which increases the performance?

    Thanks :)

I'd like to hear more about (1) and (2). I've removed the backup partition, but I can't extend my main partition onto it (at least not with vista's manager).

Would really like to know what software is handy and what I can delete. Also what is useful for expressgate since that's important to me.

    Thanks!

Expressgate has nothing to do with performance, it's a special Asus BIOS OS that runs within around 5 secs of pressing the power button (well, a specific button). It's a very cut-down OS, but it has a browser, music, photos and skype. Pretty sweet. Not sure if you can boot while it's open though, which would rock.

Theres an option on expressgate to "boot into OS". I used it yesterday. :D And Asus employed it, they didn't make it, its a cut down Linux OS, not sure which one though.

Hm, I seem to have uninstalled expressgate. Is there a specific version I need to reinstall with?

There's not too much bloat to begin with, and reinstalling from scratch isn't needed unless something's gone terribly wrong with your installation. I'd recommend getting rid of symantec antivirus and replacing it with something else (anything is better IMHO). Also ASUS Update has proved to be useless in my experience. Just check their website for updated drivers.

The recovery partition is useful because it is a faster way to recover windows if your installation goes bad or you want to reinstall everything from scratch. There is no harm in leaving it there, in general. It takes up space but you can delete it if you want. Just don't lose the recovery CD that came with your computer. There is one bug I've heard of that forces you into recovery mode at boot but I'm not sure it's very widespread or if it's been fixed in a recent BIOS.

In general, games take up a lot of space. It's not a bad idea to have one drive for the OS and one drive for applications, games and data. It's a common setup. Keeping the OS drive clean of data also is a good idea if you ever have to recover from scratch due to some problem.

That's what these forums and google are for :p

Express gate is a mini-OS that you can use by hitting the running man icon (two over from the power button) instead of the power button. It has some basic functionality like web browsing, instant messaging, etc. It is built on top of linux. It can be installed from the drivers CD if you ever uninstall it and want it back.

thanks.. so overall i should keep the recovery parititon (won´t loose any performance cause of that and 10GB aren´t a problem) and i shouldn´t reinstall vista. Just uninstalling this demo softwares

    Another question:
I read that u can re-install vista without the demo software (with the vista which is included with the G50) .. is that true? If yes i can´t reinstall anyway without that demo stuff ;>

so if i understood right from what ALLurGroceries wrote:
If u got some windows vista (besides the one which it comming with the laptop) you can make a clean vista install. If not , you can reinstall vista but all the demo software will be installed too?

Yes technically a CLEAN install of windows is from a retail copy of vista. Fortunately this method is available to you WITHOUT having to purchase a separate license like in the XP days since the retail media and the OEM license play nice together. This is a major advantage of vista vs. XP in terms of technical support type stuff. I have a retail copy of vista ultimate and I can use it to reinstall windows universally instead of needing a recovery disc from the manufacturer for a specific computer I need to work on. Note that the retail media MUST match your flavor (home premium 64 in this case) or better (ultimate 64 would work).

Sorry but my english isn´t that good and i´m still half sleeping :p
    So again to be sure:

YOu can use the vista key on your laptop for every other vista version ?
So i just try to get an clean vista , install it and use the key fro mthe laptop. And i get a activated clean (no bloatware) vista ?

Exactly. Just make sure the retail DVD you use is Vista Home Premium 64 or Ultimate 64 (business 64 might work too, I can't confirm from experience).

I'm tired too, sorry if I didn't make it clear enough :p

To be extra clear I attached a photo of what the retail copy of ultimate 64 looks like. It specifies 64 bit on the disc (there are 2 discs, one for 64 one for 32 bit). If you use the wrong disc you'll have a bad time, so it's important.
