Hi,
Is it possible to order a new palm rest for the w3?
If so is it easy to fit and how much are they likely to cost?
Thanks

Whats with all the talk about the W3J palm rests??? Is there a little paranoia spreading through the community?

dunno, my W3J is still beautiful
, the stickers came off pretty easy on mine

You can order it, but the price will be $40+ and it will void your warrantee.
It may be a cosmetic problem, but its just a computer that is to be used, nothing one can do about it really... -
This computer is only a couple months old... if you replaced the palm rest every 2 months @ $40 a pop, over a 2 year period, it would cost you $480.
Maybe you can get bulk discount pricing... LoL!! Or just deal with the imperfections called life. What kind of dream world are these kids living in these days... -

no kidding, my w3j looks identical to the day i got it, honestly NOBODY has said that their w3j has this. people are really jumpy about hypothetical problems.

I have a w3v and they come with a lighter more silverish palm rest. After about a year of pretty heavy use and lots of gaming (in the heat of summer) i had a pretty good palm mark on the left palm rest. Its prolly not as bad on the w3j since it has a much darker palm rest but i would definitely keep the stickers on just as sort of a barrier between your hand and the palm rest. Anyway, I brought my laptop into an Asus service center here in taiwan and they replaced my palm rest for about $30 US and they also replaced my battery (that had 40% wear on it) for free. It was kinda funny cause they didnt ask for any info about where or how I bought my laptop (especially since I had mine customized which technically voids the warranty), they just took my serial number and gave me a receipt and I got my laptop back 2 days later.
I remember there was a website where you could order palm rests for the w3v and replace them yourself but I think its more complicated then just unscrewing some things here and there. Also, the w3v palm rest and the w3j palm rest are two different palm rests and aren't compatable so be careful what you buy. -

z63a has this and w3v to a degree. So did every other laptop i have seen after some use. Some do some dont. It really depends on the user. How often they use the palm rests. I for one do not use my palm rests. My palms only brush up against them. If you want palm rests that dont wear out easily you would have to have them painted with paint similar to a cars finish. After some use most palm rests wear out. Some will wear in a few months some few years. It really depends on the person. The w3j i belive have a similar color to the plastic as it does to the paint so it may be less noticeable when it happens if it happens

I've had my W3V computer for a month and a half. The palm rest to the left of the mousepad is severely discoloured. I would be happy to post a photo if people are interested.
It seems to be an issue related to my sweat (and the acidity in it I presume), as the shape of the discoloration runs exactly where my left palm rests/sits on the computer (go figure).
Now, I have no plans to replace the palmrest immediately, but it is a bit of a drag (I have had a couple other laptops that didn't react to my sweat this way). I read an earlier thread about someone replacing it with a black version (similar computer model?) and that definitely interests me... I just don't want to make the replacement myself.... -
For the paranoid... try wiping the laptop down when you finish with it... Get the sweat off before it has time to eat the finish... For the paranoid...

If my palm rest fades, I think my W3J would look quite nice with a jet black paint job!
PS: I am being sarcastic, although it would look good........ -
