Look like a great centrino notebook! Why is there nothing about ASUS on this website/forum?
-
It certainly is a good looking notebook, the only reason we don't have Asus in here is because we generally focus on mainstream brands, although Asus (which is a subsidiary of Asustek in Taiwan) certainly has a growing presence. They used to only make notebooks for other major manufacturers and served purely as an ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) but they're now starting to brand their own notebooks and PDAs. Needless to say, they're an experienced manufacturer and worth looking into for purchasing a notebook from.

PS A section on ASUS notebooks would be really good, I think they are a bit of a dark horse that deserve a more sun light.
NB: I have no links with the company just like their products []

Hi Got a glimpse of one of the ASUS M6000M yesterday at my local computer shop. It looks quite nice, slim and well built. The screen was unfortunately not on and the notebook was behind glass so it was look but no touch. They had just unpacked it! But from what I saw I was very impressed. The screen looked really nice (for a turned off screen).
Here's the details (http://www.computeralliance.com.au)
ASUS M6801N P4 1.6 Centrino Notebook
Description:
Intel Pentium M 1.6GHz with 1MB cache, 512MD DDR(1 stick), 60GB HDD, 15.4" Widescreen TFT, 1280 x 800, 64MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 Video, DVD Writer, MS Windows XP Pro
More Information: Manufacturer
Warranty: 2 years
AUS $3549.
The price was quite a nice surprise, its a good $1000 cheaper than the Dell 8600.
I'm hoping to go back when I have some spare time to have a play.
The only downside I saw was that there was quite a bit of space between the keys which could be a dirt traper, but without a closer look I can't confirm this.

Thanx [8D] ASUS deserves this! Picked mine up today: 1.6Ghz, 15.1'' SXGA+ screen, CD-RW/DVD combo, 80Gb, 512Mb. I'm pleased allthough i have 2 dead pixels (right bottom corner: 1 under the task-bar, 1 just above). Fortunately i got pixel-warranty, so i can exchange it for a 100% one. So far i' very please! The screen is very good, i got to get used to the small characters (used to 1024*768 and 800*600). But the brightness is much better than my old Dell Inspiron 3200 (antique P II 233). The fan switches on quite regularly, but is not annoying. The Intel 2100 wireless is much better than my actiontec usb and sitecom CF adapters: reception is excellent compared to good for the previous adapters. I need to get used to the asus touchpad (or adjust it better): i feel my old dell is more sensetive when moving slowly. Sound quality is so so: speakers are in the bottom/front of the lap.
The on/off button lights bright blue, and i hope i still like it tonight when it's darker (it's charging right know).
But so far i'm a happy man (what else could one be after a Pentiun II 233Mhz). It feels quite rigid also, especially the cd-combo. My old dell is a lot more flaky! -
Thanks Miloman for the post.
If you get a chance to post more info on your thourghts that would be great, so far your the only person who seems to own one!

You're welcome. I'm typing this now on the beast! I've experimenting with speedstep and ASUS Power4Gear-utility to check the fan and battery-life. I'm now in speedsteps "Battery Optimized Performance" mode, and power4gear "email-office". Since the lower speedsetp setting i've not heard the fan. The screen can be set very bright, but in this mode it's less bright, saving fuel but ok to work with. I don't know how long the battery is yet, but i've been working with this setting for 2.5 hours, and according to the tray-bar i can keep going for another 1:21 34% (remaining).... Sounds good, and i will check!
I'm also very happy with the HTS548080M9AT00! Needless to say, this is the hitachi 80Gb/5400 rpm harddisk, which is extremely quiet! It just gives a very rare 'click' now and then, but i can recommend it! According to Sandra it has the same performance as a 60Gb/7200rpm! I still have to get used to the size of this thing, because it a LOT bigger than my previous dell inspirion 3200. Right now i sitting at the table, using the supplied ASUS-mouse, which has a rather short tail (75cm). Just fits the USB-ports on the left/back side of the asus, but works very fine (optical, made by logitech).
In the holland this machine is allready very popular: check this out (there are also lot's of pics):

[edit]laptop lasted 3.5 hours without juice, before asking for fuel. The last hour i was video-editing, so heavy on both cpu (100%) and harddisk (reached 52 degr. celcius). So editing on your lap will get warm! CPU was also around 52 degr., but no fan running. Btw, I like the keyboard, which i think is better than the dell's. Temps measured with MBM[/edit] -

Hey all, I'm loving the look of the Asus M6000 widescreen lappie.
I'm passing through New York in a couple of weeks and would like to pick one up if possible. Can anyone recommend potential retailers located in New York?
Does anyone actually buy from a store anymore? [^] Or is this business mostly performed online nowadays?
Recommended online retailers would also be most welcome.
Cheers -

Today a sold my hp compaq nx9010 and now i have only my new m6800n
but I very happy for my choose
I have model with SXGA+ (1400x1050) and display very good.
I have only windows xp because during install linux laptop hang up
I upgrade bios to 0208A but its not help with this problem. (Debian SID)
My first remark (first day):
1. ATI Radeon 9600 - Colin McRay 3 in full detail goes very preety (better than Athlon 2500+ with GeForce 5200fx)
2. Wi-Fi with D-Link DWL-2000AP+ works good
3. speakers are better then my JBL in HP compaq nx9010 and much better then my brother asus M2400N
4. Processor Pentium M 1500 90% of time go on 600Mhz
5. Battery (2 charging) hold about 3h50m (without 3d gaming)
6. hard disk is so silent
7. laptop works fine also with my pcmcia gprs card Sony Ericsson gc-75
8. card reader working good but i test it only with kingston sd card 256mb nut i think MMC and MS work same good.
.
