that N80 is a SWEET deal im telling you anyone beat asus for pricing?
-
sure with the X5 you get the 7200 rpm hard drive, but it seems like the screen has the CCFL backlight
the GP011C uses LED backlight...
anybody want to confirm? -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
im wondering is there a possibility that this thing could have DDR3 9650?
That would be interesting... -
Display 14.1" WXGA LED backlight,Color-Shine (Glare-type)
14.1" WXGA+ Color-Shine (Glare-type), (CCFL)
http://asus.com/products.aspx?l1=5&l2=26&l3=791&l4=0&model=2576&modelmenu=2 -
will the 7200 rpm hard drive put much more heat on this laptop?
-
What's difference on between CCFL and LED? any negative?
-
-
if it's not LED, this isn't that great of a deal.
-
Under the specs, Newegg lists the GP-011C as having a LED screen, for the X5 there is no mention of LED. Looks like it's CCFL.
-
Actually, I'm eyeballing this myself. My old HP/Compaq NX8000 has just about had it after 4-5 years
If you pull up the Newegg images and zoom in on the 7th one, on the sticker, it says:
NV80Series
CPU - Duo P8600
Display - 14" WXGA/LED
ODD - DVD Sus MTI
Wireless - 802.11n+BT
HD - 320GB
Memory - 4GB
OS - VistaPremium
So unless they took pictures of the other LED equipped unit and put it up for this one, which'd be false advertising and not like The Egg at all, then it's a LED backlight.
I'm trying to decide between this and the G50Vt-X1 that BB has up for $950. It's got a 9800GS 512MB GDDR3 card, lacks the fingerprint scanner, and weighs considerably more (5.7lbs to 7.9lbs?). Since I'm going to transport mine quite a bit, weight is an issue. Still... 9800GS vs 9650GT? 5400RPM vs 7200RPM? -

that sucks that N81 looks might good though.
-
I just received my N80Vn-X5 from NewEgg. Just to clarify some info in this thread:
It has:
LED screen <----
Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit <----
320G 7200rpm hard drive
Seems like a great laptop so far for $1020!!!
-Brian -
This is one hell of a deal. -
64-bit? Really?
I wasn't sure if it was 32-bit or not, I'd seen elsewhere where N80s were selling with 32-bit, but not the X5. I emailed Newegg but haven't heard back yet.
You know, I'm -this- close to ordering one. I need to go to Best Buy and -see- a 14" before I commit, though. I suspect I'll be plenty happy with it.
According to Notebookcheck's website, the average 9650M gets a 3DMark03 score of 13033. My desktop just scored 7663. I think the 9650M will be adequate for my needs. I'll write up a review when it shows up. -
-
What about keyboard flex in N80Vn-X5?

i can tell you are super excited
-
man, i wish i am rich, so that i can replace my old dell xps m140, that's a quitt old model~~ with GM900 -_- hope to see the review soon, so that i can save some $ to buy an asus laptop!!!
-
Does it comes with the mouse and the Bag??, because i cant see them on the page or pics.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey newegg did another price drop, now is 990 -
the X models don't get the mouse or bag
-
Nope, no mouse or bag. I have a mouse, gonna need a bag. But for the time being I'll reuse my old HP/Compaq bag that the NC8000 is in.
-
The mouse (N80Vn-A1) is a small rebranded corded Logitech you could pick up on sale for $20 and the case, while better than a lot of freebies, is no better than a $29 Targus etc. so I don't know how much I'd let that influence me. Now that it's confirmed the X5 has an LED screen I'd be all over that deal if I didn't already have the A1 - (lol at self).
-
-
Did the previous model that this one replaced ever go on sale/rebate? I'm debating whether to get it now or hold off to see if a real sale happens. -
No, they won't. Oh well, stuff like this happens. Still gonna be a kick-butt laptop for the price.
-
their CS and willingness to do anything has really gone down since last year, still great though! -
Hmm, the picture on Newegg does say LED as someone mentioned (if it's the right picture!). Does the unit have a mercury warning on the bottom? (Of course, it might use a florescent screen and just not have the warning...) -
It says it has a 14" WXGA/LED screen right on it.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowI...XGA NVIDIA GeForce 9650M GT NoteBook - Retail
Zoom in on the label on the 7th image and see for yourself. Several people have indicated that they have X5's with LED screens.
BTW, I ordered one today! -
If it helps, I'll take a close-up shot of mine when it gets here. -
ive read some comments on newegg:
they complained of having wacky contrast with the LED models
the mouse click are really loud
some complained of heat
otherwise, id buy it this instance -
What model is that for? The X5 doesn't have any reviews, and I just skimmed through the old c00whatever model reviews (I guess kind of this system's predecessor) and don't really see anything negative, other than just a warning that it's still just an 8600GT variant.
-
The trackpad keys ARE loud and uncomfortably stiff. If you're committed to 100% trackpad use I wouldn't buy this machine. If, however, you have access to an external mouse or the $29 needed to buy a basic one from Logitech or Microsoft - much less on sale - it's a non-issue. The N80Vn-A1 comes with a nice wired Logitech USB mouse as well as a usable notebook case, in fact.
This machine runs extraordinarily cool for me, with the fan barely on during average use, and almost literally silent. Under full load there are no thermal rampdowns of the CPU or GPU that I've seen, and the fan ramps up only to a very mild "swoosh." The biggest thermal issue to me is the fan blowing hot air on my mousing hand under load, but that is easily deflected.
Your mileage may vary, of course. -
Have you checked the temps during load? I'm wondering what I'll get when Folding on it
What's scary is it sounds like it handles heat better than many 15 and 16" notebooks! -
-
I'm about a week or two away from jumping on this notebook. I currently own a very heavy XPS M1730 with a T8300, 2Gb of 800mhz RAM, 2x160Gb 7,200RPM HDs in RAID-0 and twin 8700GTs in SLI and since now I'm in a much more professional setting in my work I'm looking for something more business looking, lighter to carry around but still smoking fast. (Yes I carry the M1730 with me EVERYWHERE).
This notebook is a TOTAL AND COMPLETE curveball, I mean switching from my M1730 to this the only thing I'd miss is the large screen, SLI and RAID-0 but everything else gets a slight upgrade, especially battery life and mobility and I can still play some games. AND FOR LESS THAN $1,000!!! I payed $2,400 for my XPS 7 months ago and this thing is equally or better speced where it counts!
I figured now a days most of the good PC Games are getting released on XBox 360 and PS3 so I'm basically gonna sell my XPS to one of my co-workers for $2,000, getting this and a corporate style leather case, and an Xbox 360 AND PS3 for my gaming needs. The only game I play on PC that isn't out on consoles are my SimBin Racing Simulators wich will run FINE on this laptop so my gamer side will still be covered. I mean, I know this laptop will play most games very well but I'll bite the bullet on accepting consoles have finally started playing on equal footing with PC's, a blue-ray player will be nice as well.
I'm also only a little worried on what kind of support Asus will offer, but reading in here it seems they are really nice to their customers, no on-site support like Dell, but I guess I can live with that now. I can just set myself up a loaner from the in-stock laptops from the office if I ever have to send it in for service. BTW, on a support note, can the 1st year of accidental damage be extended to the second year as well?
I'm actually quite exited!! -
wow...
for sure i will get a bluetooth mouse
if the led screen is excellent, the only thing left for me to know is heat of the gpu under full load
i really feel like pulling the gun on this one...
ive been playing the waiting game for years and really have seen a lot of change
its time for me to upgrade, been living with a intel P4 1.6 ghz desktop = | -
Hey for current owners can we get a review
Also, would you get this or a lenovo t400?
Just to make sure we are on the right page the info posted a bit above my post is referring to this laptop right?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220488 -
From the looks of it, this Asus has a MUCH better GPU than that Lenovo. Like it would be 2x or more powerful, plus it's an Nvidia, which I'd take even if it were a bit less powerful (much better driver support, especially for laptops).
-
Anyone using this with an external Blu Ray drive okay (for movie playback)?
I need to get it with this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106259
EDIT: Also, I *think* this thing with it's DDR2 GPU was matching Dell's 1540 with an equivalent ATi GPU with DDR3 (although possibly people were using non-standard resolutions). I hate '3DMark', but at least it gives an idea that it's certainly a solid gaming laptop (and for the price, I could always get a new one next year). -
I too am also considering buying this lappy soon. The only issue is the N81 is due out sometime in the next 2 months from what Ive been reading here and i'd prefer a better GPU over the 9650GT.
But the price on this thing keeps dropping every few days up here. It started out at $1308 and has dropped to $1207. The temptation to buy it is overwhelming atm
Thank godness i wont have my money until next monday (prays for n81 launch this week)
If only BB Canada sold Asus laptops here. I could go for that new G50 -
I'd love this with a Geforce 9800 part (or even 9700GTS), but after finding out for sure that you have to use third party tools to install ATi's reference drivers, I'm not buying another notebook with an ATi part, even if it's higher end than this. :-/
Wish they had a model with an LED backlight and better Nvidia GPU though! -
Thanks wolfpup. Idk looks like I am back to asus. I was going to buy the older version that came with the carrying case before but they discontinued it. Plus you can't beat this price with the specs. Yea that's true about the graphics. I had an ati gfx card for a desktop and after I put it in the comp crashed so it's not looking like a future brand for me. But I hear the n81 will have an ati card
So just to confirm this comp has everything that the older version(N80VN-GP011C) had minus the carrying case and mouse?
Is there still the keyboard problem people speak of?
EDIT: This still has led though? -
and the version on newegg has a slightly larger dimension then the N80VN-GP011C and under the warranty stuff it says 2 years limited and fails to mention the 1 year accidental. Is this laptop not covered under that?

red dragon, do you have any pics of it or could you guide me to them. The only one I saw was from a pic in an article that talked about the new gfx card but it looked the same to me. Also any updates on specs
