I was hoping you all could help me out with something that has been nagging me the last few days.
I am used to using a desktop and leaving it on 24/7 pretty much every day. However, with the notebook, I usually turn it on when I need it and turn it off at night. Anyway, my question is, is there a way to use some of the powersaving modes without losing my wireless internet connection?
If I close the lid, my wireless stops working, and if I am downloading something, it stops. However, even if I leave the lid open, the same thing happens after a few minutes. I suppose I could turn off all the power-saving features, but is there one in particular that will at least keep the wireless card "alive" even though the screen may be off, etc?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: This is on an Asus Z63a/W3a btw.

If you really need it to stay connected, then I would just switch everything to "Always On" settings. That means configuring your power managers to that type of settings. I used to download a lot on my old laptop, I just switch everything to on but only turn off the screen. If I shut the lid, yes the computer will hibernate, but I always left it open. I'm sure there's a setting somewhere on your laptop to keep it on if shut. Maybe in the bios or somewhere.

Okay so here is what you need to do. First go into Control Panel (make sure it is on Classic View). Then go to Power Options, go to the Advanced tab. Under "When I close the lid of my portable computer..." check the "Do nothing" option. You can also set other power options in the Power Schemes area. If I am downloading files, I usually keep my screen open, but I have the screensaver marked to come on after five minutes and have the screen set to turn off after ten minutes (you can change this if you want, but it works for me). Also, if you want the computer to stay out of Hibernation, you can select that option in the Power Schemes area. If you need anymore help let me know.

Thanks a lot for the help guys.
I don't mind if it goes to sleep when I close the lid, it was just when I leave it open. So I guess if I set the HD to never turn off and let the screen turn off (when the lid is open), I should be good to go. -

Its normal for your wifi card to stop working when the computer is on stand by. I turn my m5n to standby all the time. havent turned it off for a few months now. It take sa few seconds for the wifi connect to re establish itself. How long does it take yours? Ofcourse i have an older 2200bg card. I am also using microsoft client. You should try that one.
