I know that this can be kind of hard to find which is my exact problem but im pretty specific about the specs of the laptop I want to buy...

    core duo t2500
    2 gigs of ram
    14.1 or 15.4 screen
    under 1700 dollar

i was looking at the asus s96j but i think the graphics card is too powerful i want the better battery life but still want a card like the go geforce 7400 or ati x1400 that can handle vista when it comes out but wont destroy my battery life

    any help is much appreciated

When do you need it? There are some 14.1" models about to be released in the next several weeks with the GeForce Go 7400 w/128MB

Where are you located...in the US or elsewhere?

You could also consider the PowerPro L 8:15 or the Crown P 15:2 (both built on the Compal HEL80 shell) that come standard with the GeForce Go 7600 w/256MB and a 9 cell battery for longer battery life.

If you study the specifications carefully you will notice that the PowerPro L 8:15 and Crown P 15:2 (Compal EL80) are more feature rich than the PowerPro A 2:24 ULTRA (ASUS S96J):
    1. nVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 w/256MB
    2. Built-in Bluetooth (Optional)
    3. Built in Fingerprint Scanner – Standard
    4. 9 Cell Battery - Standard (6 Cell spare is optional)
    5. Instant On Media Player [IOMP]: Enjoy Audio CD, MP3, VCD, DVD or Photo CD without booting XP – Standard
    6. Built in Multi Regional TV Tuner with Remote (Optional)
    7. Has both a PCMCIA slot and Express Card slot
    8. Carrying Case – Standard
    9. In my opinion the PowerPro L 8:15 and Crown P 15:2 are better looking. The LCD cover and the ring around the keyboard (see the Picture Gallery) are brushed aluminum, and the fit and finish are definitely a step (or two) above the S96J.

Hello murawski1315, The MSI-1022 would be a good choice for the target price you are after (starts out at $1039 :D ). It is not Dual Core but will get you 3-4 hour battery life and comes with the 6200 128MB Video.

We also have the COMPAL HEL80 (DUAL CORE) that comes with the 760025MB + allot of bells and whistles. It is a Very Nice Machine! (Starts out at $1193 :D :D )

We will have a few other models coming up in the next 2-3 weeks that will also be in this target price range/specification. ;)

How soon do you need the laptop in your hands?

Hope this info helps you in your search....

I live in the US, in New York more specificaly and am looking for a computer to take to college. I will not be leaving for college until around the 20th of august, and i would be willing to pay for rush delivery if there is a good reason to wait.

Thanks for all of the input...

xoticpc i scowered your site and could not come up with the compal hel80 the link you gave me took me to the main page. That is a very intriging laptop and I must agree looks and seems like it performs better then the s96j. If you could link me to the website i would be very interested in purchasing that or one of the new laptops you talk about coming out.

    BULLETIN!! :)

The Compal HEL80 is now available with a matte WSXGA+ screen. The will be in country next week, so we should start shipping by the week following.

We only have a couple of the WXGA Glossy screens left, but those will be back in stock in a couple of weeks...after we get our shipment of the matte
    WSXGA+ screens.
