    Hi all,

    ___Background:
I have an ASUS zenbook UX31a running Windows 8.1, it was bought refurbished 2 years ago. Yesterday, I opened up the case to fix a known loose-hinge issue (I followed this tutorial: ).

    ___Problem:
Now, my max screen brightness very dim when on battery power; also, there is now faint screen flickering which is becomes more noticeable on minimum brightness. When plugged in, max and min brightness are normal, and no screen flickering is seen.

    ___My efforts so far:
I have tried changing power plans, disabling auto-brightness features, updating video drivers, and disabling Intel graphics power saving settings. None work.

I will post two pictures below of the opened case, and of the one component that may have been compromised (I believe it is the ‘video cable’, it has a blue plastic ribbon to pull to disconnect it). It is the only part I can think of that could have been compromised, with rough handling. But the curious thing is, the problem seems to be battery-related, since it only manifests when on battery power.

I have also tried opening the case, turning the computer on, and applying pressure at various places to see if the problem was a loose connection. Nothing fixed the brightness issue.

    ___My request:
I would really appreciate ideas about 1) what is causing this, 2) could my hinge-fixing have caused this issue (again, the strange thing is that the computer behaves normally when plugged in)?, 3) is this a known issue, caused by zenbook aging or operating system?

    Thank you SO much everyone!

If it's still fine on ac power it's not a hardware issue most likely. I don't mean to be sound funny but are you sure it's not something you only just noticed and are associating with the work you have done?
