Has anyone ordered any spare parts successfully from Asus?

My Asus G50Vt-X1 only came with a single hard disk. I've installed a second and it works great, but lacking an official hard drive install kit, I've had to use some paper to hold the drive against the connector.

It would be really great if I could get metal bracket that Asus uses OEM to hold their drives in place.

Has anyone ordered things like hard drive install kits from Asus before?

Yup, the Asus estore is pretty reliable. However, it seems like the hard drive bracket for the G50 is out of stock for now.

estore.asus.com is reliable but do not expect them to be as responsive as other online retailers. They do reply to your e-mails in 2-3 days. They once sent one of my package 25 days after the order date although it was in-stock during the order...

I'm in the same situation as well. Does anyone know any other alternate venues to get brackets for HDD?

Just curious, how's the heat dissipation using your paper workaround? :p

I need a bracket so badly and they have been out of stock for a good 7 months...

Any ideas on a ghetto work around without using a bracket?

Install your HDD without the bracket and support it all around with soft foams. Don't cover all around your drive with foams as it will prevent heat dissipation. Just use tiny pieces...

Thats a decent idea I just took off the bottom case to see what I'm dealing with and it doesn't seem that bad.

The X5 has foam all around that second bay all intended to support a hard drive without a bracket. Makes it actually difficult to insert and remove the drive.

I assume that X5 X1 and any others that were not configurable came like this. But am not sure if models that were orderable or came with 2 hdd's stock have the foam.

I'd avoid blu-tac since the hard drive does get warm and will most likely cause the blu-tac to lose its rigidity.

I remember waiting 3 weeks for it to become available in the eStore last November when I ordered mine. What I recommend doing (and what I did) was querying the eStore customer service for when it will become available.
