You CAN order it from another vendor, you know...

Get em from Portable One, they're a very respectable Fujitsu Dealer who also carry Asus

you get free shipping from the (2day) -
now, seriously, just to explain - I know we have a few other guys from other vendors hanging around here, and I have nothing against them. I spend a lot of time on various message boards so I've seen them recommended before just as i've seen proportable, but she hasn't; she has seen a few v6v related threads and reviews and a few "talk to justin at proportable" kinda comments, so I guess she feels a little more familiar with that.
to me at this point it would pretty much be a toss-up, or going by whoever is closer or something like that. One thing that I haven't checked yet is everyone's return policies- not that we're planning to return it, I would just prefer to have the peace of mind in case she doesn't like something about it, since there's nowhere she can see that laptop in person. She loves the looks of it, I can tell her it's a great computer for her and all, but you know... (if any of you are that person who does the tech support and recommends/picks computers for the whole family and everyone you know, you might be familiar with the pressure of making sure somebody else likes their computer [8D])
(now I'm also a little worried after reading the laptop logic review- bad viewing angles on the screen ? I've also seen a couple posts mentioning that too... hmmm... + they didn't seem to get much out of the battery [V]) -

well viewing angles and "bad" viewing angles are two different things when you're thinking about the computer.
1. all SXGA+ 15.1" regular ratio screens have limited veritical viewing angles... it's a hazard of that type of screen..... there hasn't been anything much better on the market in the last year, otherwise it would have been used. So compared to other 15.1" SXGA+ screens.... it's normal.
2. Compared to all screens in general, yes the verticle viewing angles aren't good...... but all sizes and ratios and types of screens are different..... 15.1" SXGA+ just so happens to be the worst.
... so you're girlfriend is talking about? [:I] she have a number? -- j/k... gotta keep it professional, lol

Justin

Jaydee... actually they didn't..... they got the V6 from us and mentioned the screen and I told them exactly what I told you... but they didn't have machines with the same size and res screen that they could compare it too.
But thats exactly what I said....... ask Andrew.... he reviewed a V6 from us for this site and I bet he's had more experience with 15.1" SXGA+ screens than laptoplogic... those guys are good, but they are pretty new.... so I don't know what their experience is......
Lets put it this way.... both notebook review and laptop logic didn't notice the magnets in the V6's lid (that keeps it closed)... after I mentioned... it's just like the W1 lid.. and there is no latch... they still didn't know what I meant until I explained it to them.... So for both sides it went from a negative to I think a positive.. but you have to understand what's going on to be able to review it the right way. If the only thing you look at are widescreen xbrites... the v6's screen is going to be very weird.... same thing goes for if you have an XGA or SXGA 15.1"..... it's something about the SXGA+ 15.1"s..... there aren't a lot of systems made with them and there is a limitation in the technology.
Anyone with a 15.1" M6 can tell you what they think.... and I can say that the V6's brightness and contrast are a couple steps above the M6.. but they have roughly the same viewing angles..... so I think people can say whether they are a problem for them over time.
Thanks,
Justin

sorry, i should have explained myself better there. i am aware that these particular screens are not the best, but reading the following -

quote:
However the V6V has one important drawback and it is a huge one. If youre into visual design graphics, web, or photography and color accuracy and wide viewing area is paramount of importance to you, then unfortunately you will probably be disappointed. The disappointing viewing angles and pale color rendering may supersede nearly all the strong points the V6V has to offer.

...in a review really makes me pause. it's pretty strong. I kinda assume that someone writing that would be taking into account how it compares to the same kind of screen in other notebooks (ie. "hey it's not great but it's not worse than any other 15.1" SXGA+ screens"). I'm probably reading too much into it, but I don't really have any reference point.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Thanks Justin,
That last post made me feel a little better. First, I was worried about the battery life of V6 and then I read the review from laptoplogic about the screen (and I'm a designer!). Getting a laptop is always a compromise, but look and size of V6 is really attractive, so I'm ready to make these small comprises. I was looking for a ultra portable and light 15" notebook for a while and I think V6 is so far best contender.

I have a 15.1" M6...I can honestly say the vertical viewing angles kinda suck, but it's not unbareable. You just need to find the sweetspot...[

Now if we could only find other people with 15.1" SXGA+ regular tft lcd screens.... we'd find they are basically all that way.
As a designer... besides the look of the laptop..
Thanks,
Justin

I don't know... I have never used a desktop display under 17" in the last 15 years...... You'll have to ask someone else that question I think.....

nah, it doesn't really matter what size... 15" - 17" TN panel... almost the same. any comparison would give me a much better idea than i have now [^]
-
so as a bottom line, how would you compare it to a regular desktop LCD with a TN panel ?
-
PROPortable Company Representative
ummmm... no not really..... there is certainly a difference between brands (not of the monitor itself, but of the panel makers)..... and size, ratio, coatings.....
I think the best thing you could do is ask someone with a V6 or an M6 to give you the degrees of the sweetspot......... then the degrees up usable but not ideal angles..... I mean thats the ONLY way you're going to be able to get an idea... and frankly I don't want to tell you without seeing the panel you have that oh yeah... it's like that, or it's not like that.... giving you atleast close numbers would give anyone an oppurtunity to sit in front of their screen and figure out what kind of angles they usually need and if this screen would be good enough for you.... It's a screen you can use by yourself.. but is someone is sitting to the side of you or standing behind you... they'll still see the screen, but it'll be washed out more....
Thanks,
Justin
